So focking irritated.

I have a gynecologist appointment tomorrow and can't find anyone to watch the kids.

I'm irritated because I have a couple different friends who are frequently asking me to watch their children last minute but they're always busy when I need just a little help. I can't be upset with them for already having other plans, but I'm still annoyed.

So I call my 20 y/o sister who is home from college. She's at my mom's house a little under an hour away. She's more than willing to come help me in the morning, but my mother is a controlling biatch who won't allow my sister to drive here. Mom told my sister that she'll be checking the mileage on the car to make sure she doesn't make any unauthorized trips. My mother told me that there was no reason that I couldn't take the kids with me to the gynecologist and that's it's ridiculous that I need someone to watch them for such an appointment.

I can't cancel- the gynecologist is so booked up that I had to wait 4 months for this appointment. I'm already overdue for my annual pap test and my two paps were abnormal, so I really shouldn't wait any longer. Dh's work has a very strict attendance policy so he can't leave work to stay with them either without disciplinary action.

How the hell am I going to handle both kids at the gynecologist? Dd is in her holy terror toddler phase and I don't know how I'd keep her out of stuff while my legs are in the stir-ups- she'll be into the trash, into the cabinets, climbing up onto the counters. Meanwhile, I can pretty much guarantee that ds will just keep trying to get a peek at my vag and will want an up-close demonstration from the doctor on how to properly use a speculum...

Fock. I'm totally stressing out about this and have no one else at all to call.

Re: So focking irritated.

  • can you just strap them in a stroller while you are being looked at.  They maybe loud, but at least, they can't get into anything.

-snacks? J will sit anywhere with a bag of marshmellows.

-new toy?  Maybe a new toy would entertain them?

  • You know, a stroller for dd and a bag of mini-marshmallows for ds (his FAVORITE thing on Earth) just might do the trick...
  • Loading the player...
  • Yeah, I did my baby in a stroller and saved a lollipop for my older dd.  She never gets one, and that kept her busy for the duration.  I saved it until the dr walked in.  GL, hope your pap is clear!
  • I am guessing your kids are rotten and that is why everyone conveniently has other plans.  HAHA just kidding.

Give the kids a speculum and they will have fun the whole time you are there.

Seriously though some food and a sucker right before the exam will keep them quiet and happy.  good luck

  • Could you take your kids to your mom's house so your sister can watch them there?
  • I second the stroller idea..almost all of my ob appts with pg. #2 featured a toddler...it sucked.

The stroller and the treats were the only way I could do it.

I am so sorry- I wonder why your mom is playing games with you...not cool.

She's just that way with everyone- she's been that way her entire life. She gets off on being controlling.

  • Is there no teenager in your area who could babysit?  Or even come with you as a mother's helper and watch the kids in the waiting room?

Sorry you have to deal with this.  I would happily watch your kids!

  • I had to bring both boys with me to many of my prenatal appointments, and it was much easier than I thought it would be. ?I brought an umbrella stroller for Bennett, and my OB's office has kid sized chairs you can bring into the exam rooms. ?I'd bring one in for Evan and make sure it was positioned so he had no views of the vag. I rarely had to wait long at my office, so we never had problems.

  • That sucks.  Too bad we aren't a tad closer-I'd watch them lol.

I don't understand why your sister can't drive to your house.  She is 20, not 16-where is her car?  Is there a park that you could meet 1/2 way?  Then there won't be the miles on the car and the kids could play-then it won't be  2 hours of extra driving for you?

  • What about a portable DVD player? Stick the munchkins in the stroller or on the floor with the player.

  • pez works for ds.  i had to take them both to my 6 week check up.  also your dd could potentially sit on your stomach/lap if she would sit.  They had me do that with DS when i was preggo a few times.  good luck, it is stressful taking them.
