2nd Trimester

all the talk about gender stereotyping

is making me laugh because that is one of the most talked about things on here-gotta find out at the ultrasound if it is a boy or a girl-and 9 times out of 10 it is so the person can prepare the nursery, the clothing etc-yet i was reading that people don't want pink for a girl etc.   too funny.

Re: all the talk about gender stereotyping

  • You can have things that are more feminine or more masculine without being straight up girly pink and boyish blue.

Is there a lot of talk about gender stereotyping? I don't see much, just a smattering of people who dislike the color pink - usually they're going for purple instead.

We're not doing a gendered nursery, but I'm still really looking forward to finding out the sex of the baby. It will just be fun to know and not have to call baby "it" anymore.

  • ha! I didn't want to find out.  DH couldn't hold back and thus blabbed it to everyone.

Doesn't matter to us.  Our room is yellow, our clothes are baby.

That's the theme we're going with.

  • I get what you're saying, but there's a difference between wanting to know the gender and some of the craptacular things plastered on LO apparel... or the lack of variety in LO apparel.
  • I can't wait to find out, but it has nothing to do with decorating my nursery since LO will be bunking with DS in their light green gender neutral nursery. I thought ahead when getting it ready for our last child because I knew I wanted one more and that they'd have to share a room for the time being. And I also don't plan on buying a closet full of pink clothes if it's a girl, although after having two boys I'm sure I'll buy a couple pink girly things.
  • Eh, I mainly want to find out the gender so we can decide on a name.  I'm imagining a pretty gender neutral nursery either way.
  • I found out the gender to prepare myself.  I've never changed a boy's diaper and my DH and I would have had to have the circumcision discussion. It is just being prepared not about buying pink and blue.  We wanted to pick a name and talk to her and get to know her.  That's why I found out not so that I could make sure that I am ready to train her to be a little princess and hate everything with bugs or dirt etc.

Why is it so weird to know you are having a girl but not dress her head to toe in pink.  I don't see how knowing what you are having means that you have to conform to gender stereotypes.

  • we wanted to know the gender so we could refer to the baby by her name and not Morbo. I hate pink so our nursery will be Classic Winnie the Pooh, the color pink makes me physically ill.
  • I had to find out the gender because I'm selfish and hate surprises.  Also, I'm a teacher and get really busy during the school year and thought it would be nice to get a head start on the nursery while I was still on summer vacation.

  • I cant help it- I love pink, hearts and butterfly cutesy stuff for our girl and am digging the blue, trucks and cars for our boy.  Im pretty sure that the pink "princess" onesie I put my girl twin in wont single handedly turn her into a prima donna.
