3rd Trimester

0-6 just popped my happy bubble

I had hoped that magically once this baby came out all the water I have been retaining would magically disapear.?

Turns out I was wrong, they are saying it can be weeks or months.

  • It COULD take that long, but it might not.  One of my friends lost like 30 lbs her first week post partum!

  • Eh, don't be so sure! I was up 30 lbs when I delivered and am now just 6lbs over my PP weight (at 10 days after delivery). Plus I have ankles again and my feet aren't swollen! It does help if you can get your doc to agree to give you a heploc instead of iv fluids - that will decrease your water retention quite a bit.

  • Your doc can prescribe meds after delivery to help you get rid of the water if it's a problem.

  • It's really an individual thing. ?I was incredibly swollen during my pregnancy - I wasn't able to wear my rings starting in the middle of 2nd tri and I went from wearing a size 8 1/2 shoe to an 11! ?My face didn't even look like my own! ?I gained 40 pounds during my pregnancy and all I could think about was how much of it was water weight. ?1 week PP, I was down 28 pounds and virtually all of my swelling was gone. ?

  • I really, really, really hope that I can use my fingers again and feel my LO with more than just my pinky fingers!!!
  • I really hope it doesn't take that long for me - I keep telling myself it's not that much longer until I can make a fist and wear normal shoes again! Swelling is so annoying and uncomfortable.
  • i lost 15lbs 14 days after having DD....[[half of my pregnancy weight]]... you can lose it... every woman is different
  • from what i'm heard/learned when you leave the hospital you will have only probably lost like 5 pounds because of the fluids they pump you with, etc.  once you can see the bones in your face, ankles and can take and put your rings on without pressure you should weigh yourself and that is when you are not retaining fluids anymore.  i think the typical time in at least a few weeks....
  • It takes a few weeks, but it seems fast while you are living it.  I left the hospital and came home to weigh myself.  I was distraught to have lost 1 pound!  I had a 9 pound baby for god's sake!

Anyway, 25 of it was gone within 2-3 weeks.  Another 5 came off in the next 2 weeks or so.  The last 7 were a present to myself that needed Weight Watchers.

I breastfed, if that makes a difference.

  • Ugh- I'm soooo swollen!  Can I go sit in a refrigerator somewhere to make the swelling go down????

  • It can definitely go away that fast!!! Most of my friends and relatives had their water retention/bloating/swelling totally gone within 2 weeks.
