Heat from laptop

So I'm not the type to freak out about little things since this is my second...but my laptop gets super hot on the bottom. So hot DH actually uses a pillow to put it on his lap. I just realized how hot my belly is even with the pillow.. I hope I'm not cooking the LO in there! Anyone else thought of this?

  • Nope, as long as it's not burning your skin everything is ok.

That's not true as heating pads are a no no.

I think you are fine with your laptop. I know this was a topic in the past on TTTC (during the 2ww), I've looked it up and there are some sites that say to not put the laptop directly on your tummy. But I don't think it's really anything to worry about (although I wouldn't sit with the laptop on my belly all day).
  • Just because it's a lap top doesn't mean you have to use it on your lap each time.... How about a desk, table, or putting it on your bed and leaning over it.  Just sayin'...

  • get a chill pad (find them with other laptop accessories, usually has a couple fans in them and they plug into a USB port on your laptop to run), not only will it save your skin from being burned but it'll help cool your computer down which will help it to last longer.

  • I've actually thought of this, you are not alone. Since we started TTC, I haven't put my laptop on me anymore. :-)
  • I actually put the laptop on my stomach when I'm on the couch. I thought of this, too...I freaked out and now  I just put a pillow under it. If your belly is still hot, though, you  may wanna get a lap desk or a tv tray...something hard that the heat won't penetrate. I'd rather be safe than sorry :)

  • I set my laptop either on the coffee table, or on the sofa seat next to me.
  • we have a board that we put our laptop on and then we set the board on top of our lap with the laptop on top of the board. sorry if thats confusing

Ditto.  I use this and I love it.  So much more comfortable than a hot lap, and it is better for your computer.

  • Just get one of those laptop cooling pads.

  • 1) It's fine to have your laptop sit on your belly as per doctor's opinion.  My husband actually asked this question during my first appt.

    2) Stray away from setting your laptop directly on your stomach only because the fan needs to do its job.....My first laptop went kaput because of this.  You can purchase the padded lap desks at any local Target, Walmart, Office supply store.  Big Smile
