They say 8 hours. Sometimes I sleep longer than that...I've been doing that since I was 15, so far, no issues. I deal with it as soon as I get up, though; so it's never more than 9 or 10 hours at the most.
They were just discussing this on The Doctors the other day and were warning women to go no longer than 4-8 hours without changing it because of toxic shock syndrome. Dr. Lisa said: "To
help prevent TSS while wearing a tampon, Dr. Lisa advises using the
lowest absorbency tampon for your flow and changing it every four to
eight hours. If you find your tampon fully saturated before four hours,
you should use the next absorbent size. And while TSS is a risk, Dr.
Lisa explains that if used correctly, tampons are safe. ?They are a
great thing for women because they let them be active,? she says. ?They
are very, very important to women, but you have to use them the right
way, because they can lead to infections. But they are very safe and
very good.?
And she knows what's up on the gyn tip. Love that show!
You're not really supposed to leave them in that long (unless you sleep less than 6 hours).
I know a lot of people think the DivaCup is disgusting (it's not!) but this is one of the HUGE benefits of it! I only have to change it when I wake up and when I go to bed. That's it. And no risk of TSS because it's medical grade silicone You cant feel it, it's no where near as gross as people think it is and you dont even have to use pantyliners! Best.Invention.Evah.
I never had an issue using a tampon for hours and hours and that included sleeping through the night. Never used a diva cup (as the other pp said...it does sound disgusting to me). I mean...how can you change it or take it out without getting your fingers all icky?
Many years ago (when I was a teen) I heard that you should not wear them to bed, but just recently I read through the information paper that comes with them and it specifically says that you CAN wear them to bed, but I think it's a max of 8 hours or something like that.
So I am intrigued that you just started using tampons. Did you only use pads for the past 15ish years..and never tried a tampon in that time? I don't think I know anyone who has not tried tampons before...which is why I ask.
I always wore them to bed bc I hated that "leaking" feeling I would get if I had a pad on.
