How to use Bac-Out?

I got the spray kind thinking that was what everyone talks about for getting out stink. It says to just spray it on the dipes, let is soak, and then launder as normal. Is that what everyone does? I was under the impression that it was something that actually went into the washing machine.

I fill the bleach dispenser of my front loader with Bac-out instead of using bleach. It works really well. I think it is about a fourth of a cup.
