2nd Trimester

Bleeding....

Earlier today, after going to the bathroom, I noticed bright red blood on the toilet paper. I (obviously) immediately called my OB and was told to rest and, since there was no cramping, to just monitor the amount of blood. I would say that it was probably around a teaspoon and I haven't had any cramping at all. I was just curious if anyone else experinenced anything similar in their second trimester. My Dr did say that this could be related to intercourse, but we had sex last on Thursday and that seems a little long ago to me to trigger bleeding now.

It has now been a few hours and things haven't gotten any worse. I just would have loved a quick little check since my last appointment was Monday and I have another 3 1/2 weeks to go before my next one. I still haven't felt LO move, so I don't have too much reaasurance that things are ok in there...

TIA - I'm trying to not freak out.

Re: Bleeding....

  • I don't have any bits of information but I am surprised that your doc didn't send you to L&D ASAP. I called yesterday complaining of a bit of leaking they sent me in right away. Turned out to be nothing. I hope it resolves itself soon.

  • I had a little bit of red blood when I was 17 weeks with DD.  The only thing out of the ordinary for me was that DH and I had gone on a walk that was much longer than our usual that day.  It was a Sunday and the nurse I spoke to told me just to take it easy for the rest of the day and to call if it got worse.  It didn't get worse, but I called the next day to ask that they let me come in to listen to the heartbeat, just to reassure myself.  I think they thought I was being dramatic, but they let me, and all was fine.
  • Try to take it easy but if you are really worried you could always go to the ER to have them take a listen.
  • I had bleeding at 17.5 weeks and I went to the ER to get checked out. ?Even though it wasn't a lot of blood, I just had to know if baby was okay in there. ?If you are going to be stressed about it, I think it's better to know for sure.

  • I have bleeding like that all the time.  I have placenta previa, which is one of the most common reasons of bleeding after the first trimester.  They say many women have it early, and it will usually move before the third trimester without any problems.  The bleeding is actually from the cervix being irritated by the placenta.  I was told not to worry if I had no cramping or pain.  If it increases I am to go to the ER.
