regular applesauce not ok?

Is there a difference between regular applesauce and baby food applesauce?  I'm assuming the baby food kind is more smooth but is regular ok to give to babies too?

Re: regular applesauce not ok?

  • Regular applesauce probably has a bit of sweetener in it too.

  • Ive got the no sugar added kind ?
  • i think as long as the ingredients are only apples, water it's fine. i would google it though just to be sure.

  • Only thing I can think of is texture. This is a good thought though for when we start solids, I eat the all natural stuff myself, so it'd be nice to just feed her the same.
  • We always used the regular unsweetened kind for DS and there was never a problem
  • its fine. get the natural kind. i forget which brand but sounds like you got one that is like that.
  • I would also make sure it's the true "no sugar added" and not that it doesn't have any sugar b/c it has artificial sweeteners in it (splenda).
  • I used regular natural applesauce from the beginning without a problem.  Ditto everyone else on reading the ingredients to make sure it's just apples and water.  Also, many have ascorbic acid, which according to www.wholesomebabyfoods.com is perfectly fine (and even organic ones have it usually).  Maybe jarred baby food applesauce is thinner... I have no idea since I've never used a jar of babyfood in my life.  DD did just fine on the regular stuff.
