Don't take a 9 year old boy into a womens bathroom, lol

DS, the girls and I were at the mall.  Everyone had to go to the bathroom, I make Nathan come in the womens with us (not in the stall, but in the bathroom.)  I was washing my hands and he said "mom, these people are crazy, they want you to pay .25 cents for a napkin."  That kid just cracks me up!!!!

  • 9  is too old to go into the ladies room.  I would be annoyed if I saw a 9 year old boy in the ladies room,

  • I kinda think that 9 is too old to have to go in with mom in the bathroom too.  Heck, I remember going to the "toy department" of a store alone with my little brother and I can remember him still being in diapers so like 2-3 so I was 7-8 at the time.  And mom would come and get us at the end of her shopping.  He could probably stand outside the bathroom just fine.  Maybe HE'S embarrassed to go in there at that age.

  • There is nothing wrong with bringing your 9 year old into the bathroom.  My son is 8 1/2 and I make him come into the bathroom with my daughter and I depending where we are at.  He just stands inside the doorway, it's not like they are peaking underneath the stalls.

Seriously?  I would assume it's for the safety of the child.  That wouldn't bother me at all.

Yeah, 9 *could* be too old, but not all 9-year-old boys are created equal when it comes to maturity and following instruction. It also depends on where you are.

I mostly agree with this. My SS had stopped going in the women's room at 9. He stood by the door and never wandered off or had anyone bother him. I also told him to come into the women's room hollering if anyone talked to him. But I can see some kids would be tempted to go looking around and not stay put.

  • Of course I think it depends on the child and where you are.  But here in Mayberry I *think* I would feel safe for dd to stand outside the restroom if mh had to go potty when she is old enough.

  • I have to admit that it would catch me off guard if I came out of the stall and saw a 9 year old boy in the ladies room.  With that being said, I can see the OP's point.
  • I also agree that 9 is WAY too old for a boy to be going into a women's restroom.  I have 2 boys and one is now an adult (I also had a young DD at the time) and for sure he would not be coming in the women's bathroom with us at the age of 9 or 8 or maybe even 7.  If he had a mental illness then maybe...but even then he should be going into the stall with you.  Think about it...would your DH take your 9 year old DD in the men's restroom (if you had/have a DD)?  There are times that women say things to their friend in the next stall or whatever that I wouldn't appreciate my 9 year old DS hearing and I'd be upset if I and my DD were in there and she asked me for something...maybe a pad or tampon or something.   If you can't leave him alone standing just outside the bathroom door then maybe you shouldn't be going anywhere with all of them at the same time if there is a chance one might have to use the restroom.  BTW...how do you know he wasn't looking under the stall doors...you weren't out there with him right?
