Babies: 0 - 3 Months

Babys "Scared" cry.. Question.

My son is 3 months.. My boyfriend was feeding/rocking him trying to get him to go to sleep and suddenly he started crying, so he went to check his diaper and as soon as he laid him down he did this horrible scared cry that I've only heard once before when he wokeup from a nap. So I ran up the stairs to see what was wrong, I picked him up and started sootheing him and then he stopped and was perfectly fine, Is that normal? I don't understand what could have made him so scared when he was just being fed & rocked.
I'm a first time mom and worry about everything lol

Re: Babys "Scared" cry.. Question.

  • He's probably just overtired. Whenever we lay DD down to swaddle her, she screams and as soon as we pick her back up, she's fine.

  • My son has done that once or twice when it just seems to come out of the blue.  I'm not sure what causes it but he is usually easily soothed.
  • Maybe he had a really loud/fierce toot (seriously, don't laugh).  My DD has woken herself up with an enormous fart and it freaked her out.
  • DS has done that before, especially when we lay him down to change him after he's been in a deep sleep. I think it's because he gets disoriented and scared when he finally is alert and wakes up and doesn't know where he is.

As soon as I pick him up he will calm down. I lay him back down and he's fine!
