Keeping track of feedings, wet/dirty diapers

How long did u keep track of feedings and dirty/wet diapers? My LO is a month old tomorrow and for the last 2 weeks i had been keeping track of his input/output. It kinda made me feel better to see it written down and be sure that he was on track. I am wondering how long i should keep doing that. I am afraid if i stop i will forget his diaper count and constantly worry about it.

  • I never did once we left the hospital.

  • I am not as far a long as you, so you probably dont care about my answer, lol. I dont keep track of diaper changes- she pees every time I change her- she thinks she is a boy and actually pees on me. She also poops literally every hour I think...I do keep track of feedings though. I wasnt, but the pedi said she is not gaining enough weight, so I am keeping track to show them at the appt on Tuesday.

  • IMO, I didn't really track it. It worked to just keep a mental note. Like DD, she has wet diapers all day and in regards to messy ones, she has 1 every day or day and a half.

    Try not to worry!

    :)

  • we had trouble with weight gain at first, so we tracked until her weight was doing well and the diapers were at the number they were supposed to be.  if you feel comfortable, try stopping, if you worry too much, start again.
  • I was thinking about stopping but since we are strictly feeding on demand now & not waking and still fighting this crappy jaundice I decided to keep it up at least for another week when we see the pedi again.

  • first 2 weeks or so was all we did.
  • I never kept track of diapers.  He gets changed as least as much as he eats and is always wet, poopy, or both.  He's gaining plenty of weight so I'm not worried about him getting enough to eat.

The hospital gave me a sheet to fill out for the first week. After that I stopped.

  • We kept track until DD's first appt at the pedi outside the hospital at 5 days. Once they said she was doing well, I stopped keeping track.
  • We stopped when we left the hospital.
  • I did for the first week
  • I think it must be part of my list making habit, but I still keep track of feeding times and ounces and DD is almost 2 months. It helps me to watch her patterns (which probably isn't needed since she is 97% in height and 50% in weight and the doctor said her progress is great).
