2nd Trimester

feeling faint?!?!?!

was just outside talking to a neighbor and felt like i was going to pass out. started feeling very hot, blurred vision, VERY dizzy, and everything started to look dark. i know i had to have seemed rude because i was like "i gotta go". i went in and sat on the couch and feel better. I do still feel very lightheaded. and i took my b/p it was 152/90 which is kinda high for the average girl, but i has a heart surgery as an infant that causes it to run high during pregnancy. so i don't think the b/p is the problem. i have been having very bad headaches the past few days. anybody else experience this? and what do you think i should do ?!?!??

Re: feeling faint?!?!?!

  • Are you hungry?  Or have you recently eaten?  If so, did you have protein?  If I eat too many carbs or sugar I get the exactly same way.  I almost passed out at lunch the other day and realized I barely had protein.

I hope you are feeling better soon!

  • I have ate, and protein could not be the problem because thats basically all i have wanted this pregnancy! I'm gonna drink some water and see how i feel.
  • I've been having that at work a lot when i'm on my feet for an hour or so without sitting down. I had to tell a customer i would be right back and i never came back. I had to call another associate over to take it. It was awefull. I hadn't been taking my iron every day like i should have and I've made sure i have since and it hasn't happened. I'm thinking that is what caused me to feel that way. I was 17 weeks when it started so maybe it's just normal i don't know.

  • The same thing happened to me when I was in Wal Mart by myself one day.  My Dr said it is most likely hypoglycemia.  She just told me to carry around snacks with me, nuts, dried fruit, candy.  What works is different for every person so it's just trial and error.  Good luck and I hope you feel better.  Trust me it really freaked me out when it happened so I don't let it get that bad anymore, or at least try to not let it get that bad.

  • This happened to me when I was around 15 weeks. I took it easy for the day and drank A LOT of water. I hope you feel better.

  • The same thing happened to me at around 15 weeks.  Except I actually passed out and hit the floor in the supermarket.  It was the only time i fainted, but i've had the really bad headaches off and on for weeks now.  i never had this with my first pregnancy so it freaked me out at first, but i haven't had that pass out feeling since.  Although i do get dizzy spells when i get up too quickly once and awhile.

just make sure you sit down and drink a lot of water when you feel like this.  i don't think there's anything else you can really do!

  • My dr. told me to drink a lot of water...over 64 oz a day. That helped a lot.?
  • I saw something about this on one of the weekly newsletters, I think it was from WTE.  It's a normal (if annoying) side effect.  Your body is redirecting blood flow to your uterus, which sometimes means there's less blood for you.  They recommend slow and easy transitions from sitting to standing and taking it easy.

Hope that helps a little, and good luck.  That's got to suck!

  • this happens to me about every 3 days or so. I have low blood pressure naturally (average 90/60) and at one point at the Dr. office I was 70/40! The Dr told me to go on a high-salt diet and keep drinking water but now it is difficult because it is sooooooo hot here and I am worried about swelling.

My last appointment my bp was normal 100/90 but I am still feeling faint. He said the increase of blood flow and the heat can cause it if standing for too long it pools in your feet which can cause light-headiness.

Here is a good article: https://www.babycenter.com/0_dizziness-and-fainting-during-pregnancy_228.bc

  • I started having this problem about a week ago and it was happening several times per day. I called the docs office and the nurse I spoke with suggested I start eating 6 small meals per day, all containing some protein. I have to say it has already helped and I've only been doing that for about 3 days. Also keep drinking plenty of fluids.
  • I would call your doctor and just check in with them, to see what they think. Probably it's no big deal, but with the bp and headaches they may want a heads up. In the meantime try to rest, eat enough, and drink plenty of water.

    Sorry you aren't feeling well!
