Storing Co-sleeper/bassinet?

DD has moved into her big girl crib and we are no longer using the co-sleeper as a bassinet in our room. DH asked me if I was selling it and at first I was like, "of course not...hopefully we'll have more kids one day...we'll just have to buy it again, etc..." Then he asked if I would freak out later it had been stored in a place where it could potentially get moldy, a la crib mattresses. Hmm, hadn't thought of that. Touche.

Should I sell it or is it ok to save it for 2 -3 years down the line when I will most likely use it again? Will it be safe to use if it ends up in our attic? Is there a special way to store it? (For those who have used the Pack-n-Play, the mattress is very similar.)

Re: Storing Co-sleeper/bassinet?

  • I was planning to just put everything in the attic. I didn't even consider mold or other issues (maybe I am being naive?). One option is to store everything but the mattress in the attic. It folds up pretty small so it should be easy to put it in the back of a closet. I'll be interested to hear what others say though.

  • I stored my cosleeper up in the attic, b/c it's dry up there, unlike the basement which feels damper.  I folded it down and stored it in a trash bag.  Just FYI, you can buy extra Arm's Reach mattresses, if that ends up being an issue.  That would be cheaper than selling and re-buying the whole thing.  Or, you could store the mattress in an indoor closet, and the frame in the attic.
  • We kept it in DS's room, and use it to store all the stuffed animals he received as gifts but has yet to play with.

  • Thanks for the suggestions. I won't sell it and will probably store the mattress piece downstairs in my closet or under the bed. I think I'd be p*ssed at myself if I ended up buying the same thing again anyway!
