carseat ?

We are starting to do our research on convertible carseats.

How big were your kids when you switched from infant to convertible seat?  How old?  How big were they at birth?

Our boys were just over 5 lbs... we are looking at a few different seats and they have different weight requirements and I am wondering if they will reach the higher weight requirements by the time we switch seats.

TIA

Re: carseat ?

  • They switched at 11 months, around 18lbs each.  Are you sure you want to switch now? infant seats are so handy.

  • No, we are going to stretch them as long as we can but are starting to research and the grandmas want to start looking for deals.  The boys will probably get their seats as Christmas presents, but if they find a deal they want to be able to go for it and we want to make sure we get the right thing.

  • We moved from the Graco Safeseats to the Recaro Como's at about 8 1/2 mo actual, they were just hitting 20lbs. and the infant seats were getting snug. They were 3lbs 12oz, 3lbs 15oz, and 3lbs 7oz at birth.

  • Hanna was over 1 year old (she was tall but light) and the doctor had me wwait until she hit whatever the weight requirement was.  We own the alpha omega and the britax;  Love the britax marathon;  at the time we got the larger convertible car seat to account for winter months and buckling her in when she had wintergear on.  Do not love the alpha omega;  the straps get are cheap and get mangled  in the clasps of the harness. Good luck!

I agree that keeping them in the infant seat as long as safely possible is best!
