Confession: Halloween

I have only but one time dressed up for halloween.  My parents didnt allow it.  How sad is that?  We went "trick or treating" at the church so we didnt get drugged by some phycho.

Re: Confession: Halloween

  • I am SO sorry for your loss of childhood!  I can't believe that!  Church stuff just doesn't come close to the real deal of Halloween.  It's something that I'm really looking forward to sharing with my kid/s.

Please tell me that Santa was allowed to visit your house!

  • I grew up in what used to be a retirement community ( we were the first kids on the block).    Some old ladies were awesome and gave out great candy.  Others not so much, we got lots of pencils.  :(

Oh, yes.  We had santa.  I will go trick or treating with my children.  I cant wait.

  • the hubs' family doesn't participate in halloween either because they think it's the devil's holiday or something, but their church does have a party-type thing where kids can come and get candy.

it kind of makes me think...is that really so different? I mean, I'm sure parents (most of them) aren't out there telling their kids that they dress up to ward off the evil spirits or to celebrate evil spirits...I think the kids just like dressing up and getting candy, halloween roots aside. JMO, I'm done venting now!

  • My parents wouldn't let me trick or treat in the neighnorhood either.  They took me to the mall instead (all the stores gave out candy but it was still really lame).

  • We were just discussing this morning that we're probably going to have to take our kids trick or treating at the mall because we wouldn't feel safe going door-to-door in our neighborhood.  Poor kids.

Hope my comment doesn't dissuade you from the mall. (In actuality it's probably a good idea, I just got made fun of b/c of it when I was a kid.)

No, not at all, and I didn't even see your comment until after I posted.  As recently as this past Halloween, I've felt bad for kids because it doesn't seem like real trick-or-treating.  Of course, I don't think the kids around here would even know the difference.

  • So sad that I can't take my kids trick-or-treating.  I don't live in a neighborhood, but a busy highway.  And I will not be one of those people that drives to a ritzy neighborhood I don't live in to take my door to door.  I/We will be partaking in the church festivities.

My parents also didn't allow it and even made us go to the school library when there was a Halloween party at school.  We couldn't eat the candy from the party or anything.  I have begun to make up for it by dressing up a few times in my 20s and now making Henry a kick-ass first halloween costume (pic in bio).  Devil
