It seems to me, the very first question people (family, friends, co-workers, strangers.... mostly, this little vent is about the last two...) have all asked me, the moment they know I am pregnant, is...
"Are you going to breastfeed?"
(Yes, I plan on it, but still...) Why do you people all feel that this is an appropriate question to ask right off the bat? For some of you, I barely even know you!
If I say yes, are you going to tell me how to care for my nipples? Tell me the best techniques? Tell me all about breast pumps?
If I say no, are you going to judge me? Call me a bad mother? Tell me I am stealing nutrients from my baby?
Either way, I don't see how an of this is pertinant information for people I barely know... So back off me and my mammaries, thankyouverymuch!
Re: Why do people ask this question??
Luckily I haven't really been asked this question (until after DD was born at least)... but I'd come back and say "is it any of your business?"... especially in the mood I am in today.
I get this one alot and "was it planned"
My favorite is from people who've never been pregnant before asking if I know the sex at 8 weeks ku- Hilarious. I just said "A baby??"
People are morons. In your situation I might just say that you are weighing your options at the moment or are undecided (Even though you are)
i get that every day. my MIL actually told me i shouldn't because i might smother the baby ( i have 44DD boobs) i just rolled my eyes at her
oh and i get it about drugs during labor too

LOL...I had asked my SIL, just because I was curious (but we're family). I def. don't ask random people who I don't know though.
Really? That's the first question? Not "How are you feeling?", "How far along are you?", "Anything I can do?"
I mean, I'm an avid breastfeeder and even I find that odd to ask, especially right away. I admit I may ask later, but only if we are on a topic that brings it up.
I never thought about it but, yes... I've gotten this question quite a few times, too. I think it's absolutely ridiculous.
And when I say, "Yes, I do plan on breastfeeding," there's NEVER a response. It's like these freaks just have a morbid curiosity!
