When DD was 8 weeks and 9 months, she had UTI's, both after she had surgeries. She was hospitalized and given antibiotics for the first one, I think the second was just antibiotics at home.
They never really developed into anything for her, she hasn't had systemic UTI's or anything like that, so if your LO had a causative event, they may wait to see if this is a recurring problem?
But if they couldn't think of a cause for your LO, perhaps they'll do an ultrasound of her urinary tract to make sure there's not a blockage or anything?
Usually when small babies get UTIs they do a kidney ultrasound and a VSUG. The VSUG involves putting a catheter in and then they shoot dye to watch and make sure it does what it is supposed to do. The VSUG only takes about 15-20 minutes.

Ditto, Addie had one when she was a year old after 2 UTIs right in a row. It was pretty traumatic for her, but in a younger baby I don't think it would be as bad, smaller babies get over things quicker. Addie does have reflux in her kidneys, so she has to be on antibiotics all the time.
DD had one at 8 months. They did a VSUG and kept her in the hospital for about 4 days. We later found out it was caused by kidney stones. I've been told that all the meds they give NICU babies with premature lungs can cause them.
