I had some spotting around 8 weeks as well, and I really freaked out! Try not to worry, a lot of women have spotting early in pregnancy. In my case, it turned out to be pretty much nothing.
Try not to worry too much, It's not that uncommon. I had spotting at about 7 weeks. They called it implantation bleeding. It was light and lasted a few days. Best of luck and I hope you have answers soon.

I had very light spotting off and on throughout my first tri, and baby is fine and seems to be healthy. Try not to worry--I really think it's more common that we think.
Oh hon... if it's just light, that's very, very common at your stage. More common than the books will lead you to believe.
I had a very heavy bleeding incident on a Friday at exactly 8w. Totally freaked me out and doc said to go to the ER (where she was working on call that day, anyway).
Had an U/S... showed everything was fine and there was no visible source for the bleeding. Had a follow up at the doc's that Monday. Still showed everything was fine.
No real diagnosis, other than my body probably thought it needed to have a period. The bleeding lasted on and off for 10-freakin' days. Still sometimes pretty heavy and red in color.
Morale of my story... even some heavier than spotting bleeding doesn't necessarily mean something's wrong. And after-the-fact, every single mom I talked to said she too had some bleeding around 8w.
Good luck!
