Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Can you help me?

I also posted on Babies: 0-6 months...

I am due in Jan. and was researching strollers/carseats/travel systems.  I would like to hear what you guys have to say good or bad.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Re: Can you help me?

  • After the research that I've done, I knew I wanted my stroller to have the bassinette attachment so that the baby will get used to sleeping with his back straight, like in the crib. So, we went the 'investment' route and got the Mutsy 4Rider. I am in love with the stroller!! It's so durable, maneuverable, comfortable for LO and I know I won't need to buy any other strollers in the future. I highly recommend it, but it's not an inexpensive option. If you do decide to go for those more 'European' strollers, make sure you check the web - they're almost always cheaper online (with free shipping).

  • I had a graco travel system.  I used the infant seat until about 6 months and then I switched to a convertible carseat.  I used the stroller part in conjuction with the infant seat and on it's own once she hit about 5 months and could sit up well on her own.  I just bought an umbrella stroller cause we're going to Disney and I needed something more compact.  The stroller from my travel system is ginormous- FYI.  It didn't even fit in my husbands trunk.  I also have a jogging stroller for cruising the neighborhood but I got that used from my neighbor.

If I had it to do all over again I'd probably still go with the travel system cause I used it a good amount and will use it with future kids as well.  The only downside is the bulkiness- some prefer the snap n go instead.

  • We have the Kolcraft Contours Options three wheel stroller. It comes with a car seat adapter that works with Graco and a couple of other brands. I really liked it, but I wish that I had splurged and gotten the Quinny Buzz. It is just more heavy duty and is what I should have had for winters in Chicago. If you aren't planning on going out that much, I wouldn't worry about it, though. I really like the Kolcraft because the seat can face towards me or away from me. It's the inexpensive version of the fancier strollers. The basket is also huge, which is a big plus. It's a pretty heavy stroller, though.

I now have the Quinny Zapp as well. It's lightweight and fabulous. I get so many compliments on it. It's great to travel with. Comes with a travel bag with a strap, a rain cover, car seat adapters for the Maxi Cosi infant seat, and a sun canopy. It weighs thirteen pounds and folds up compactly enough to fit in the overhead compartment in an airplane. I can push it with my pinky finger and it rolls like a dream.

ETA: I bought the Zapp from Albee Baby and received free shipping.

  • I'm going to give you the "don't buy this one" opinion.  We had the Peg Perego Pliko P3 travel system.  While the stroller was good and we liked it, the car seat was not great.  It was difficult to "latch" the crotch buckle b/c you had to hold the two pieces together JUST.RIGHT, otherwise you couldn't get it in.  It was a PITA!!!  Also, it seemed to be a little more closed in than other car seats, which is good and bad, DS HATED his infant seat.  We used the convertible seat starting at about 5.5 months b/c of this.  We will be trying a new car seat for our next child.

Good luck in trying to figure it out!  My suggestion is to go the stores and, if you have to, take a doll to try out several car seats!  Make sure that the crotch buckles go independently of each other.  :)

  • I did the graco snug ride and the metrolight stroller...it had the infant seat option(which I didn't know at first) and then he loves it now...it is also big but very light...we love it...we are going on a trip next week and I am going to buy an umbrella stroller just because I hear they get pretty beaten up.
