Success after IF

If I get the "when are you having #2" comment one more time

I'm going to scream! I get so sick of warding off this question. Sadie JUST turned one and honestly, we're not having another child. Ever. It's something we've thought long and hard about and it's not going to happen. Ever. This information, however, is NOBODY'S business!

So then when I tell the nosey-roseies of the world "we're not having a second" I get to hear what horrible people we are for not giving Sadie a sibling.

I've gotten very good at the blank-but-obviously-annoyed look and monotone "it's not really up for debate" answer but GEESH people. MYOB!

Re: If I get the "when are you having #2" comment one more time

  • We are already getting the "when are you having #3" questions and #2 isnt even here yet! Gosh people, back off!!! People assume that just because we are having 2 boys that we HAVE to go for a third to try and get a girl. I dont feel like my life is any less fulfilled because I will 2 boys, thanks though. Not to mention it isnt like going to McDonalds...I cant just put in an order for a girl.

    Anyway, I feel you!!! :o)

  • People can be so thoughtless.  I really think a lot of times they are trying to make conversation and have no idea what they are "really" saying.

  • I hear ya'.  My LO is not quite 4 weeks old and I've already been asked when we are going to have number 2.  Really?

It took years and medical intervention to get pregnant. . . then I got horrifically ill while delivering our sweet little boy (after having been pregnant for nearly 42 weeks, TYVM). . . we were inclined to have just one to begin with and given all of this, we KNOW we are "one and done". . . not that I need to explain this to every nosey person who asks. . .

  • My little guy just turned one as well and I get that question all the time now, it's like a switch went off when he turned one and gave everyone permission to ask that. My response is that we'd love another child if it ever happens...then they kindof of get it I think...it is pretty annoying, it is just a constant reminder of how hard it was to get pg with the first one and that I don't know if it will ever happen for me again.
  • I'm getting it and I haven't even fully baked the first one yet. When I say "I think this might be it for us" the response is usually "OH only children are so sad, you have to have another"

Gee thanks. My best friend is an only child and she seems to have adjusted damn well!

    People suck!

A lot of years and a million tears finally led me to you.
After 7 years trying to concieve, 3 failed IUIs and 2 failed IVFs, my third IVF was a success!
My Christmas baby turned into a turkey bird! Dillon Richard was born at 34 weeks, 5 days on November 28, 2009 after 10 weeks on bedrest for preeclampsia.

My DH is an only child and I seem to think that he turned out to be one helluva good guy--a decorated officer in the U.S. Army, with a loving family and a good life.  What's sad and maladjusted about that????  I can only hope that my son grows up to be the kind of man that his daddy is!

  • As an only child, some of the responses you're getting are kind of rude (as is that question in general). It's really not that bad, people! Some of us do manage to grow up into well-adjusted, functioning, happy adults!
  • Well, this goes back to the "when are you having a baby?" question?

DH's favorite response? "Well, we've been trying, but it hasn't been working out. Care to watch out video and tell us what we're doing wrong?"

He also enjoys "Well, enough about our sex-life, let's talk about yours!"

However, if it's someone he doesn't feel like putting in an ackward place "Not this year". Works great for anyone asking past April :)

I also was an only child. I think I am a pretty well adjusted person. DH is also an only child and he has to be one of the most selfless people that I know. There is nothing wrong with having an only child!!
