So due to my work hours I had to have my DH pick up a massage gift certificate for my moms bday from my dad (dad had a mini-stroke and doesn't drive much). Well being the sweetheart he is DH also got a gift certificate for me too!!  I told him I would have to get a "prenatal" massage.  He was asking the difference and I wasn't sure so I googled it.  Well in the results also came links about massage being bad during first trimester.  Has anyone else heard of that?? Has anyones doctor told them they advise against it??

oh no! I got a couple 15 minute massages on the beach on Cozomel last week! I was 10-11 weeks.

Massage is fine in any trimester, unless your dr tells you otherwise (high risk are the only ones who can't) check with your dr to see if the will let you.  Otherwise, you need to find a massage therapist who is certified in prenatal massage and you need to let them know how far along you are.  Enjoy your massage!

Basically just being in the 1st trimester is riskier (relatively speaking) for miscarriages. Some places are afraid of the liability of miscarriages so they might not take 1st trimester clients. I did some research before I went in for my prenatal massage too and felt like personally I felt fine to get a massage. I had mines done when I was 8 weeks and had to sign liability release for them to do it. It felt good and I'm hoping to go back in another month. Make sure you go with a therapist that specializes in prenatal and talk to your doc beforehand.

My dr. told me today that massages are great, and he actually recommends them.  As long as you let the massage therapist know, you should be fine.  A friend of mine that is a massage therapist says that prenatal massages are mostly for after the first trimester (you can have regular ones before then) when you can't or don't want to lay on your belly, so they have you lay on your side.
