Shared Risk Program?

We're thinking of taking out a loan because the thought taking 20K from our savings makes me ill...but then there's that big monthly payment

Has anyone every participated on one?

What was your cost? And how did you decide to pay for it?

How many ?tries? do you get in your program?

How many IVF's cycles did you have before doing shared risk?

Re: Shared Risk Program?

  • Unfortunately, DH & I were not approved for the shared risk program at my clinic so I don't have much insight about that.

Could you pay for the program with part of your savings and part loan to decrease your monthly payment but keep your savings account balance up?

  • We used the Shared Risk program and it was well worth it to us. It cost $22K and we paid with money we had in savings.

For $22K, we got 6 fresh cycles of IVF + ICSI and any frozen cycles in between.

We ended up doing 1 fresh and 1 frozen cycle with insurance (which we depleted) and then did IVFs #2, 3, 4, and FET #2 with the Shared Risk program. Then in CY2009, both DH and I got increased IF benefits so we dropped out of the Shared Risk program, got our full $22K refunded, and did IVF #5 with insurance money.

After 5 years of TTC, 3 IUIs, 5 IVFs, 2 FETs, multiple losses and an adoption that wasn
  • DH and I are looking into this as well. In fact, our RE is one of the guys that implemented this program in the state of VA!

We do have some friends that went through the program. They went through 4 rounds of IVF all with BFN's and then they had some sperm left over once everything was said and done so they did an IUI and got a BFP! They got PG and got all their money back as well.

    Good luck to you!

  • Has anyone every participated on one? Yes, we decided to participate instead of paying individually.

What was your cost? And how did you decide to pay for it? We paid $23,500 for IVF w/ ICSI (this did not include meds, anesthesia, cryopreservation, or monthly embryo storage). We used half from our savings and took the other half as a loan from DH's retirement acct (we're paying that back now over 5 years at a low interest rate - I know, it doesn't sound like a good idea, but for us it is).

How many ?tries? do you get in your program? 3 fresh, 3 frozen. They return 70% of the amount if we decide to leave the program or it didn't work.

How many IVF's cycles did you have before doing shared risk? 0. We didn't have coverage for IVF.

  • We are participating in shared risk.

What was your cost? And how did you decide to pay for it?

$15000 (or 15500); this does not include anesthesia for transfer OR meds or any surgeries

How many ?tries? do you get in your program?

3 fresh cycles and unlimited FETs (however, I've never been able to get frosties)

How many IVF's cycles did you have before doing shared risk?

    None

    HTH!

  • We are in one. We got 2 fresh and 2 frozen for $17,000. We opted in on our first cycle. I'm so glad we did it. It is like a very pricey insurance contract.
