re: Injectables (from my post below)  :)

If you don't mind..how much do you pay for injectables?  Insurance covers nothing for me which sucks.  How often do you take them / what can you tell me about them?

Thanks  :)

I just got off the phone with my RE about switching to injectables.  I go to Dr. Chin and I know you don't go to him, but they may be similar in pricing. This is what the nurse told me:

If I get my meds from a website they recommend (based in Great Britain) - I will prob. start out with around $300 in meds.  This is SIGNIFICANTLY cheaper than getting them from a pharmacy here.  I will also have to come in for more U/S than I had to with IUI. A minimum of 3 U/S per cycle, which is about $270 each time (includes U/S and office visit). And then the cost of the IUI which is $320.

DH and I have a lot of decisions to make. I HATE this so much.

  • Oh, and I forgot to tell you what she said when I asked if this will increase our chances...she said "slightly better." UGH. Let me know what your dr. says about the chances.

Thanks for the info Chels  :)

  • Hey! Sorry it took a bit, ran out to lunch with the moms, lol...

My injects came through Schraft's pharmacy and were $240 for a 300iu cartridge.  There is, however, an OOP donation program on our board (which I didn't know about until after I made my purchase)--contact "Tryingtogetpregnant" once you know what you will need.

I, fortunately, did not have to pay for my u/s.  That is the only thing my insurance has covered thus far.

For me, the follistim has worked SO MUCH BETTER than the clomid.  I was on one shot a night (100iu), and by CD 9, I had three follies.  I can't remember the numbers (they are in my blog, I think), but they were the most mature follies I'd had AND in the shortest amount of time since I started all this 6 months ago.

Follistim (or any inject) is not a good choice for someone who does respond well to Clomid.  Why go for the more expensive stuff if you have a good result on the less expensive stuff?  But, from the numbers you mentioned in your other post, you are responding slow and not very well to the Clomid at the dose you are on.  Keep in mind, also, that 80% of people who will have success with Clomid will do so within their first ovulatory cycles.  If you do not do injects next cycle, I would go with what the RE said about upping your dosage...though, I will say that when I went in for my mid-cycle and had follies the size of yours (13 and 11, right?) my RE chocked it up to a "no response" and upped my dosage as of that night.

I can't remember if you're dealing with MFI, but in IUI with MFI, you want to have the most "targets" you can, and I have personally had better luck with the injects this cycle than with the clomid in the past.

Let me know if you have any other questions!
