meconium and CDs?

We're planning to CD from the start. I'm wondering if there's a difference with meconium...like it's more difficult to wash or we should do anything differently.

Someone bought us some disposables and I was thinking I could maybe use them for that short time if it is problematic.

Thanks!

Re: meconium and CDs?

  • We CD from Day One and didn't have any problems with washing or staining with the Meconium.

  • I have heard numerous places that though meconium is sticky, etc. it gets a way worse reputation in relation to CDs than it deserves.  From what I've heard, it stains less than normal BF poop and washes out fine.  If you're worried, you could always scrape, spray, or otherwise rinse it off before putting it in the washer, though :)
  • We used cloth from the day we got home.  I don't remember that he had any meconium poops once we left the hospital.

  • I plan to cloth at the hospital and I'm not going to do anything special about the meconium. Like the pp said, I've heard from a lot of moms on here that started from the get go that it washed out fine and it stained but no worse then the bf poop that followed. If you're really worried about it you could use some flushable liners and that should reduce your issues.

  • We just put a paper towel in our diapers for the first couple of poops. No big deal. It was like, two poops. I had a roll of those shop towels left over after our home birth, so I just used those.
