I need some relocation advice. We are moving to the area in the fall. DH is going to be working from home but will occassionally have to drive in to his office in Elgin, IL. Do you know anything about the cities around that area. What cities are nice? Which ones should be avoided? Any help would be appreciated!
Re: Chicagoland ladies...
I asked my coworker who used to work for the FBI in Chicago and here is her response:
"Elgin blows, it's gang infested ghetto - I would suggest somewhere near Arlington Heights.............."
Hi, I agree about living in Elgin, most areas are not real good. I live in Elk Grove Village and love love it!! We have such a nice area, very close to everything. Great parks, library and school district. The nicer areas around are Arlington Heights, Schaumburg, Itasca, Bloomingdale, parts of Streamwood are not bad.
Feel free to page me, I have lived in the Chicagoland area my entire life.
Ugh...I wrote out a huge repy and got an error.
Two of our friends live in Elgin - one in S Elgin. The one in S Elgin lives in a very nice new development. The homes are HUGE and they live next to new shopping areas. The whole area is improving but I would check into the schools.
Arlington Heights is very nice but it's about an hour (depending on traffic) east of Elgin and there is really no good way to get there.
South of Elgin are St Charles and Geneva both of which have a mixture of new and old development, huge homes and very cute downtown areas.
Southeast are Wheaton and Naperville which are nice. Naperville is a hike and always has traffic. I live near Wheaton and my DSS goes to Wheaton schools and they are very good.
