how early did you need doublers/inserts? also wondering what else I need to get started...

I haven't bought any yet - was going to wait until DC is a bit older, but now I'm wondering if I need some from day 1...

Still need to prep all my CDs but haven't gotten around to it yet.  Don't think I have a big enough stash to get started, but I'll survive...

Right now, I have:
12 prefolds
4 KL 0
2 KL contours
4 thirsties XS covers
2 BG AIO XS
3 snappis
12 wipes (going to get more)

was going to wait to buy more until I figure out what works for DC and what I like better (and what DH can manage to figure out...) but I'm not sure what else I should get right now.......

Not going to get bigger sizes of anything yet until I figure out what we like, and what we can afford when it's time to buy...

Any suggestions?  I am so overwhelmed right now with this kiddo just around the corner, I can't bother to do any more research on CDs.

  • Wetbags? Looks like you have enough for daily laundry. I might get a different cover. We have some thirsties but none in NB sizes so I can't comment on how i like them but I do like the Bummis Super Brights. GL! It's a roller coaster but so far the diapering has been the easy part.

  • I second a wet bag for on the go and a pail liner for at home.

We used KL0's starting at about 2 weeks. I would say that probably by 4 weeks or so I was putting a doubler or a folded up wipe in there for a little more absortion. DS is a pretty big wetter.

We have 2 Thirsties covers that we love. I have 2 Bummis super brights that I have tried a few times but they don't fit DS right. We also had a prowrap that didn't fit rigth either and a Bummis SWW that was okay.

I don't think you need doubelers for the BG AIO. And i don't use PF's so I dont know about them but if you get a few extra wipes or a couple of doublers you might be happy you had them for the KL's

  • Def. a pail liner (or two so you have somewhere to put dirties while the other is in the wash) and a wetbag or two (in case one is in the wash).  I have one large one and one medium one.  The med. gets used more regularly, but the large is good for when we're gone all day.

I'd say wait for the doublers.  You shouldn't need them for a while.  For wipes, just get baby washcloths.  Cheap and functional.  If you end up getting other wipes later on you can use the washcloths for other stuff.

As it is right now you'll be doing laundry every day.  I'd suggest just buying another dozen prefolds since they're so cheap and that way you won't have to wash so often.  You can buy more of the other stuff once you figure out what you like.  Keep in mind that for newborns you'll want 24-36 diapers as you'll be changing once or twice at a feeding for a while.  You can always resell what you don't like or use.  NB diapers sell fast around here!

I'm going to be buying some prowrap covers (they have cut out for the cord) for the NB stage, as well as an Isme Vimse cover or two.  The xs thirsties may be too big for a while.

  • I agree with pp who said that the diapering is the easy part right now =)  You have a similar stash to what I have in terms of what you have except I have about twice as many of everything except the covers.  This has me washing every other day.  We use the XS BGs for overnight and hemp KLOs with the extra doubler and other fitteds during the day.

The diapering really is the easy part but there is no way that I'd want to be washing every day.  You really might want to consider the other ladies suggestions for filling out your stash a little more.

  • I do have two wetbags also.
Haven't gotten liners for the diaper pail yet.
    So much to do......
