The pacifier fairy came. And a question

The pacifier fairy came tonight and took all the pacifiers away and left tons of baseball stuff and a cake behind.

Everything was a huge hit, and we kept thanking #1 for giving his pacifiers to all the babies in the world who need them.  And congratulating him for being such a big boy.

He seems to be doing okay, though I foresee me sleeping on his chair tonight.

Question:  Ever since I can remember, #1 would bang his head to get to sleep.  He still does it, every time he falls asleep, he rhythmically bangs his head on his mattress.

I know it's for comfort, but I'm thinking he should have started growing out of this by now?  Does anyone else's child do this?

  • ethan doesn't do the head banging thing, but he digs in his bellybutton--always has. ?I think it's just a comfort thing. ?

I hope your pleasantly surprised with the paci fairy thing--I anticipated nights and weeks of tears and asking for paci, etc. ?Not once. ?And he was seriously addicted. ?I was amazed! I hope you are too!!?

  • My DS bangs his feet on his mattress while winding down, I never really thought a lot about it.  DS just sent his paci's to our version of the paci fairy this past weekend.  Our boys are growing up!!

Both my DDs rub their face on the bumper. Is he banging his head hard?

Good luck with the paci! Funny that he likes cake already :) Still can't believe that he is over a year old- Emi is next! Yikes!

  • Thanks ladies, I hope it's easier than I think it's going to be too.

REOM, this is for J.  I know, I know, I probably should have done it when he was B's age, but I couldn't.  And B is just as addicted to them as J is now, so I guess we'll be doing cake + different toys in 1.5 years.  Smile

I guess as long as it is on the mattress and doesn't hit the wood, is it okay? Sounds like it is his way of putting himself to sleep. Does he have a pillow? Maybe he could use the pillow instead?

Sorry, I didn't realize. Gina never took a paci, but Emi is addicted. I am a little nervous about the weaning since I have zero experience.

  • You're lucky G never took one.  It's a pain getting rid of it.  Or just keeping track of them!

He has a pillow, but moves it out of the way.  I feel awful.  Sometimes when he's really tired, he is really banging his head.  He'll do it against his carseat sometimes as well if he's been up for a while.

Everything I've read says he should be phasing this out soon, but I don't see that happening.  Anyway, thanks for the advice.  If he doesn't stop by 3, I'll be talking to the pedi.

  • My brother banged his head pretty dang hard. Until at least 3yrs old, that I can remember. He was a twin & the pedi explained that he'd spent 9mths with his head so pushed tight against the womb that that was comfortable to him.
