I used 1/2 of the smallest load mark.  And that might have even been too much...you kinda gotta play.

I couldn't figure out the liquid - the powder ended up working better...Sorry that's probably not what you wanted to hear. 

I'd say start with 1/2 of the smallest mark - when I tried less than that the diapers didn't get clean enough.
