Pregnant after 35

Induction?

Any of you momma's been induced before?  My midwife is giving me an option to be induced tomorrow or wait a few days to see if I go on my own. I'm a very anxious person when it comes to messing with mother nature, but the risks to my baby are getting higher the longer I go.

Re: Induction?

  • yeah..me.  44 hours of labor.  Water broke but needed to induce labor.  I had a cs in the end.  It was tough, but in the end, TOTALLY worth it!

  • I can't go into labor on my own.  I've been induced 3 times (4 counting the fetal demise I had at 20 weeks).  I don't have a tough time with it, but I would never go through it without an epidural.
  • I was given the option of trying an induction or scheduling a c-section due to the predicted size based on the biophysical profile performed on my due date.  My baby arrived weighing 10 pounds 15 ounces [no gestational diabetes either].  Big, late babies just run in my family, so it was no surprise.  I opted for induction which took from 9 PM Saturday night until 12:22 PM Monday.  It was long, but well worth not having a c-section!  We did 3 rounds of cervical ripening with prostaglandin gel and my water broke when I was in the bathroom peeing at about 3:30AM on Sunday.  Then the pitocin drip to start contractions.  It took a while, but is supposed to be easier on the baby this way.  It worked and I would do it again under similar circumstances.

My induction began at 40 weeks and 1 day.

  • I did with my 1st.....i had a high leak so they chose to induce me. My labor went very fast...i got my epi about a 1/2 hr after they started Pitocin. My labor was 7hrs start to finish.

  • i was induced at 40w5d and it was a great success.  i did have to have Cytotec to soften my cervix.  after that baby was coming fast.  never needed Pitocin.  in labor for a total of 7 hrs and pushed for 20 mins.  no problems.
  • I was induced with my DS. I regret pushing my doctor to doing it. I was anxious for my pregnancy to be over and wanted a certain doctor to deliver my son who happened to be on call that particular day. I wish I would have waited it out a few more days for a mandatory induction. I really think I would have gone on my own as I had done with my DD. The difference between the two deliveries was night and day.

My experience was brutal. Once the Pitocin started I went from zero to full blown excrutiating labor with no break between contractions in a matter of minutes. Total time from IV drip to baby on the warming table: 4hrs (and I probably could have pushed much sooner but, had to wait for the doctor)!

Unless there is a medical need to intervene because of the declining health of you or the baby, I would seriously not recommend inducing.

Oh geez....i just saw you're 41w2d.You are really OVERdue aren't you? I'm not familiar with how a midwife works but, I know my OB won't go beyond 41w because of concern of the aging placenta. Are there any natural remedies you can *try* to coax mother nature along? I can understand your concern about getting things going! Please keep us posted and GOOD LUCK!!

  • Successful induction with my 1st.  I was induced a week early due to medical reasons & my doctor wanting the hospital to be fully staffed when my baby was born.  In active labor for less than 6 hours.  Just the pitocin drip & they broke my water. I did opt for the epidural after they broke my water.  I pushed for a while (1 hour 23 minutes) because my sons head got stuck ; )

I went two weeks early on my own with my 2nd, but had a problem with my blood pressure (epidural related) so they had to give me fluids which stalled my labor.. I actually requested pitocin.  From the time they started the drip till baby came was 1 hour.  They had to break my water again.
