Why do people say these things?

I had someone tell me that I'm having a girl today because my eyes looked tired and my nose was getting broader.  Hmm... ok, my nose has not changed.  I look in the mirror on occasion, I would notice.  And my eyes looked tired because I got less than four hours sleep last night because DS woke up every hour from teething and as a result I was throwing up as soon as I woke up.  Why?  Nice way to tell me I'm ugly and fat.

She's a nice person, but that just really made me upset especially on top of all the other little things today.

They didn't say that.  They said you looked tired and that you have a beautiful Roman nose that you should be happy to pass along to your DD.  (sorry -that's the best I could do - but they didn't say fat or ugly, neither of which you are)

Thank you.  I know she didn't say ugly and fat but that's what my very tired brain turned it into.

Oh, you'll love this.  When I was expecting DD, someone told me that she knew it was a girl because she was "stealing my beauty."  That made my day!

Yeah, my grandma told me when I was pregnant that my face was really filling out.  Definitely made my day!  Sometimes people just don't think.  Sorry and I'm sure you are beautiful and glowing even though you are, rightfully, a little tired.
