I e-mailed LUSH last week to ask them what exactly is in the 'perfume' that they use in their products.
I am disappointed but not surprised. eh.
I thought I found some really awesome products with lush....
guess I'll use em up and try something else next time that doesn't have to hide ingredients....
here is their response:
Hi Jenny,
Thanks for your email. While we do like to use fresh, organic
ingredients whenever possible, we do in some cases use safe synthetic
ingredients where natural ones cannot provide the same desired results.
We do not purport to be "all-natural" or provide any false information
about our ingredients. In fact, it's so important to us to make sure
our customers know what they are buying that we list our full
ingredients (with Latin names also) for each one on our website, on the
containers, and in our catalogues.
That being said, when you see Perfume listed as an ingredient, it
refers to the ingredients in the fragrance that we do not have space to
display on the list. There may be other essential oils we would like to
talk about but there just isn't room for them.
Perfume may be listed in green text, which highlights a blend of
natural essential oils. Or it may be listed in black text, which means
that we have included safe synthetic fragrance materials as well as
essential oils.
Perfume also refers to the ingredients we are not required to display by legislation.
Some people have allergic responses to specific fragrance materials. We
are required by law to display these materials on our lists, whether
they occur naturally in our essential oils, or we use them as an
ingredient. This enables these people to identify the products that
contain them in significant quantities. Products containing these
materials can be used safely by everyone else. We consider the safety
of our fragrance materials very carefully as we do any other ingredient.
Perfume also allows us to keep from our competitors the total fragrance
formula. Each fragrance takes very careful work and gives the product a
unique quality. We are allowed a few secrets, though not many. I hope
this helps. Please don't hesitate to contact me with any further
questions, comments or concerns you might have. I'm happy to help!
Sincerely,
Sondra R.

Re: update on LUSH products: response re: 'perfume'
This is the perfect opportunities to vote with your dollars and only buy the Green label perfume.
I
Lush. It's a million times better than Bath and Body Works (and I've gotten rashes from BBW but never from Lush...so their synthetics are still really mild...)
yeah this is true i will definitely only buy from them again if it's a green label...just annoying that they can't disclose all of their ingredients!!!
