I had an u/s and office visit in May. My crappy individual health plan has no maternity coverage, so they were billing me $250 for the u/s. I had already paid around $110 towards that at the time of service, so my bill was around $140. Now I have an insurance with maternity coverage, but it didn't become effective until after the first u/s. I called the doctor's office and asked if they had any discount, since basically it was like I had no insurance at all for the u/s. She discounted the bill to what my current insurance would have paid. So now I only owe $14. Woohoo! Now I am wondering who else I can call to see what kind of discounts I can get. lol

Wow, that's awesome! So, you just made me call my doctors to find out why i haven't received a bill yet ( I am supposed to be paying 10% of everything after my initial visit). Well, she looked it up and insurance has paid 100% of everything so far, she said right now I don't owe anything! Yay!!! I'm so happy! Thanks!

Ugh I was in the same situation with insurance for my first set of blood tests...they cost me $900 out of pocket.  Needless to say, I am on DH's insurance now with maternity coverage.  =/
