Time to start building the stash :)

Got a positive this morning so now I can really start shopping for CDs LOL. A few questions.

1. DD was 8lb14oz and there is no reason to think this one will be any smaller (DH and I were big as were our siblings).  Do I need to get newborn or can I just go with small?  I'm thinking of doing some fitted, some one size, unsure on the prefolds yet.  If for some reason I have a small baby there is a store in town that sells the prefold box sets in newborn size so I could take care of that pretty quickly.

2. Since my only local options are Bummi prefold box sets and BG AIO OS I was hoping to do some etsy shopping.  What are your favorite stores?  Particularly ones that ship to Canada, if you happen to know that info.

Thanks so much.  I've been really enjoying reading along here for the last couple of months and can't wait to start getting fluffy mail Big Smile

Re: Time to start building the stash :)

  • I'll help where I can - we didn't start CDing DS until he was 7 months so I don't have first hand experience with cding newborns. I do know that the OS won't fit until about 12+ lbs - and since my first kiddo was only 6' 5oz at birth I'm expecting to use klo's and orange/yellow pf's for quite some time.

ETA- I realized I didn't really answer your question. I guess I would stock up on some nb stuff just in case, unless you are okay with getting the pf option in town or going with sposies on the off chance that your LO is on the smaller size.

  • Congrats!! :)

As for favorite stores, I love my B4's - they have a newborn diaper (which I haven't tried) and great OS fitteds - particularly wonderful for nighttime.  www.hyenacart.com/bububebe  She's actually from Canada, so shipping is cheaper for you than us here in the States.

DS was 8lbs 13 oz, and he was still in his nb diapers for awhile (KL0's for 3 months), although he was fairly tiny waisted which helped.  He was able to move up into the infant pfs fairly quickly, although we did have to fold down for awhile.  I'd definitely at least get a few nb things.  I'd be surprised if you skipped through that stage completely.

There are several larger CD stores around, I dont' know about Canadian shipping, but check out www.moderndiapers.com, www.jilliansdrawers.com, www.nickisdiapers.com - they're not WAHM made, but I admit - I like having recommendations for WAHM diapers or buying something with a bit more of a reputation.  I do love www.hyenacart.com/littlefancypants fitteds.  I've gotten the ones with the snaps, and really like it.  I hope to get more in the future, but she hasn't stocked any lately.  :(

Thanks for the links and suggestions.  I have checked out B4s and ironically it costs more for individual diapers to ship within Canada.  Bizarre but that is the wonder of Canada Post LOL.

  • We're skipping the nb stash but my son was 10p 5oz so even if this baby is smaller, I don't anticipate a 'small' child! If you have the option of picking up nb prefolds quickly, then I would probably do the same. Build a good small stash and if you need to, pick up the prefolds until your dc is big enough for the smalls.

Etsy wise - hmm it seems my favorites have closed!

    She does great customs

And I haven't bought from here but here are some really affordable fitteds. I'm trying to make most of dd's stash but if I come up short I'm going to try some of these out to round things off.

  • Congrats! I've always wanted to visit PEI...maybe some day we can visit and have a G2G with our fluffy bum babies :-P
  • Do I need covers for B4s?  And if so why the cute patterns?  I'm confused about the cute diapers that need covers?  Anyone?
  • Congrats on your BFP!

They do need covers but most of us use them coverless at home.  When they feel wet, they need to be changed.  I put wool over them if we're going out.

Do you have cute underwear?  Do you normally wear clothes over it in public?  Same idea ;)

LOL I guess I never thought about it that way.  But it does add a whole new level of complexity to my shopping as LO will be in daycare and they will probably want AIOs
