Diaper champ users...

I bought the Diaper Champ because I liked the idea of using regular trash bags and until recently it worked well.

However, now that DS is eating solids, the smell is getting worse.  We have a deoderant cartridge, we spray Lysol when we're changing the bag, but does anyone have any other suggestions or should I just break down and buy a Diaper Genie?

Re: Diaper champ users...

  • From what I've heard, nothing really works well after they start solids. We now only put wet diapers in the diaper pail and poop goes straight to the outside trashcan. Sometimes if the thing is almost full, I'll tie poop diapers in a grocery bag and stick them in there if I know it won't be sitting for days.

  • I ended up putting a trash bag in the garage and all the poopy diapers go in there and I use the Champ for all other diapers.

  • if DD does not poop in the potty, which she often does, I'll usually put the poopy diaper in a plastic grocery store bag b4 putting it in the diaper champ. A friend of mine used to dump the poop into the toilet before putting the diaper into the champ.

  • It's great for pee diapers but poopy diapers (after they start solids, just wait for if she starts meats, that's when it really gets bad).  We would just take the poopy diapers straight out to the trash in a plastic grocery store bag.
  • Great for pee diapers, but we take the poppy diapers straight to the outside trash can.  Also, if the poo permits, you could dump and flush the poop in the toilet then put the diaper in the pail.  I haven't tried this yet, but someone suggested it to me.  Our poppy diapers don't really dump that easily...it usually absorbs into the diaper, especially when we first started solids.
  • Thanks everyone (I know it's a lovely conversation topic), but flushing it or trashing it makes a lot of sense.
