Holy moly. I thought after strollers and car seats, this would be easy. Pick one you like that has good ratings, and done! I had no idea there was so much to consider...is the tray able to go in the dishwasher, does it have a safety t-bar, and do I really need a $200 high chair. Geeze.

Yes, I would put it on your registry. I believe most babies start on solids at around 6 months.
We registered for the Fisher Price Space Saver. It straps onto a regular chair and converts into a booster seat. I just really didn't want to have to make room for a high chair, and I think most of them are so ugly. This just seemed like the best option for us, and they're really affordable.
I have this and LOVE it. So easy to use, saves space, and very safe.
Ditto this. Frankly, it's kind of ugly (but they all are) but at least it doesn't take up as much space and it's a lot cheaper. My SIL has both this kind and the regular peg high chair and she never uses the peg.
For DD we used an antique solid wood highchair that has been in my moms family for a long time. When we got it, we cleaned really well, hubby either tightened or replaced all the hardware and we resealed the tray. It is beautiful and fits right in with our dining room. It also doesn't take up a ton of room like some of the newer highchairs. And as far as t-bars and safety, we never left her alone in the highchair, so it wasn't a concern. We really didn't use it that long, either. By the time she was 10-12 months old, we had bought a booster that strapped to one of the dining chairs (it had it's own tray that we only used it a couple of time) and she sat at the table with us.
We have a Tripp Trapp and adore it. DS is outgrowing the highchairs at the restaurants but doesn't like the boosters. At home this isn't an issue b/c there's no bar on the front of the chair. He climbs up it himself and sits down. And it wipes up really easy. I'm getting another one for baby #2.
I recommend getting the infant kit for starting at age 6 months. It's more secure than the straps for babies. I also love that they eat right at the table with us from the beginning.
