Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

Would you be concerned?!

Yesterday we got to see my cousin's 7-month old little girl. We had not seen her since she was only a few weeks old. She is absolutely adorable! But she also kind of worried me... First, she doesn't cry. When she is upset she makes this gasping noise like she is fighting to get air. Then when they set her down on the floor she literally just sat there staring straight ahead for almost 30 minutes! I tried playing with her toys and clapping her hands but it was like she didn't even notice any of us were there! My cousin says she's just a very quiet baby.

They have some wacky pediatrician who has only seen her twice since she was born because "that's how he does things." I dunno... maybe she is absolutely normal but I thought I remembered DS being much more alert and active at 7 months. Do you think her parents should be at all concerned? Or does that sound like any other baby her age?

Re: Would you be concerned?!

  • At 7 mos, I remember DS being pretty active and vocal.  While I would be a little concerned, I don't know how you could possibly express your concern without overstepping your boundaries or offending your cousin.  Maybe someone else will have a suggestion for how you can broach the subject, but I would probably keep my opinions to myself.
