The big easy may not be the best destination for a babymoon, but our options are limited, so oh my Nola, here we come.
Anyone got any good recommendations for restaurants or shops since eating and shopping will be replacing my normal New Orleans activities.
Re: Babymoon to New Orleans
I went to NOLA in my first tri. It was still a great time! I recommend Johnny's Po' Boy and The Napolean House in the French Quarter. Also, the bread pudding at Mother's! I didn't really get to try many of the fancy places because all I had were casual clothes and flip flops though we did make it work for Emeril's which was really good. Also, its a bit out of town but a bartender told us about Sal's Seafood where they have great all-you-can-eat crawldad's, shrimp, crabs, etc.
It sounds like you been to NOLA before but if your normal activites include partying you might want to consider checking out some historic tours or a cajun cooking class?
I grew up just north of NO, Dh grew up in the city and went to school down there. We try to go back once a year around Memorial Day and stay in the city. Our families are all still down there so its easy to drop our daughter off and have an adult weekend.
So where are you guys staying? If you are looking for place to eat slightly outside of the quarter but delicious try Comander's Palace. Awesome food!!! Emril Lagasse was a chef there before he struck out on his own. They are also the creators of Bananas Foster. The Aquarium is realy nice this time of year. Nice and cool. We always make a stop there in the summer. If you are going in October and feel up to it The Audobon Zoo is great. Right now it's swealtering but in Oct. the weather is great and the animals tend to be a more active. I would say the River Walk for shopping but since Katrina it hasn't quite been the same. A great place for breakfast is Camilia (Ca meal ia) Grill. If you are looking for a real New Orleans Mufalatta you will want to go to Central Grocery. It is past Cafe Du Monde' just before you get to the flea market on the Jackson Square side. My mouth is watering just thinking about it. Are you guys flying or driving down? Will you have a rental car? Another great restraunt is Restaunt August. It is owned by Chef John Besch. He is amazing. He's been on Food Netwrok a couple of times and competed in the last Next Iron Chef competion. He came in second place.
Another real Louisiana restraunt in the quarter is K-Pauls Louisiana Kitchen. It is owned by chef Paul Prudhomme. DELICIOUS!!!!! I think on Saturday nights they have a live Jazz band that walks around the restraunt and plays. I'm pretty sure we went on a Saturday, would be a good idea to call and check when you make the reservation. It really made for a neat experience. The Cresent City Brew House is great. One of my favs I make DH take me there almost every time we go down. They brew there own beer, but also have amazing seafood, burgers, and NO style food. Acme Oyster house is another great seafood stop. They shuck oysters right there in front of you. Don't worry they offer plenty of other types of seafood other than just raw oysters. They've gotten so big that they have expanded to Metairie and the North Shore (Covington/Mandeville). CCBH and AOH are very casual but it doesn't hurt to see about a reservation if you are going for dinner. Not sure if Acme does them but I know the Brew house does.
I could go on forever, but these are some of our favorite places to go. Hope all this helps. Can you tell I love my home? Feel free to message me. These are just the things I thought of off the top of my head. I am more than happy to let you pick my brain about NO anytime.
Great pick on the Omni!! Enjoy your trip!!
