I have the opposite problem. Unfortunately/fortunately my dh works for my GI dr. i get appts as often as i want, but sometimes they are a little rushed because im being squeezed in. i need to figure oout if anything that i'm eating is causing all of this. I read that taking out dairy can help.

Do you take a probiotic? I've been taking Align for two months now and it's helped so much. It's expensive ($30 for 28 pills) but my gastro typically gives me a $10 off coupon when he has them. You can get Align OTC at places like Publix.

I do! My GI doc can't figure out any 'triggers'. They've tested me for Chrons, Collitis (sp?), glutten allergies, coloniscopies, you name it, he is settling for severe IBS for now! I take Levbid when I have 'episodes' but even that dosen't work sometimes

I've had alternate diagnosis of IBS and microscopic colitis for the past 10 years. I also have celiac disease and am lactose intolerant, so I obviously avoid those things. I also avoid any oily/fatty food and eggs. I also take Align daily and have seen some improvement with that, although I still have up and down cycles in terms of how well my colon operates. My colon is the bane of my existence. I had c.diff for 22 weeks last year, and that definately didn't help!!
unfortunately yes. I was diagnosed when I was 10 with IBS-D
Check out www.helpforibs.com, particularly the diet section (which is what I linked it to). That website seriously saved my life! Since there are so many kinds, it helps to read through all the info. They have lists of triggers and such as well as what you can do to help prevent it (I take Benefiber 2 servings 2xs a day and that helps wonders!).

I have it and some things that have really helped me is to reduce my stress! That is one of my main triggers. My gastro recommended changing jobs! LOL, that didn't happen, but my awful boss did get fired and that really helped! Also, exercise seems to help.
The next big triggers are dairy, lettuce and peanut butter. Lactaid is a really good lactose free milk so you can still eat cereal and we have even made homemade ice cream with it. Also, limit caffeine. HTH!
Me too. I originally thought I had food allergies, but it turns out I have IBS. I avoid pineapple, bananas, flax seed, certain kinds of lettuce, avovado... and I'm still learning what triggers pain for me.
I have Ulcerative Colitis. I am fortunate enough to have only had it flare up on me 3 times so far, but when it did, I was god awful sick for a month straight. Because I haven't had a lot of flare ups, I have no idea what causes it. My GI prescribed me medicine to take during my last flare up and I'm supposed to take it everyday, but when I went to get it filled, it was going to be $100 a month, and that is with an awesome healthcare/prescription plan. I couldn't afford it, so I have been going with the flow for the most part.
Re: embarrassing question.
i have IBS with constipation....
i have to keep my fiber intake up with lots of water. HOWEVER, i have to make sure that the fiber isnt bulking otherwise it can be very painful.
do you have this kind of IBS?
unfortunately yes. I was diagnosed when I was 10 with IBS-D
