AKA our first trip to urgent care:
So my dad took him for a nice walk...he came back and I saw a red bump under his eye, it looked like a mosquito bite but with a puncture in the middle of it. I had been stung by a bee before and it looked identical, so that was my first thought-except DS was acting fine! My dad didn't notice it until I pointed it out, and he said that he didn't see a bee, DS hadn't cried at all, and was babbling and happy the entire walk. I put a cool washcloth on the bite/sting and he went to bed as normal about an hour later.
He slept through the night like normal, I heard him talking away and happy on the monitor...so imagine my horror when I go to get him from his crib and saw his poor little face! Again, he was acting fine, but we took him right to urgent care...He ended up running a 102 fever at the office (though you couldn't tell by the way he was tearing around the place!) and was put on antibiotics and benadryl.
The fever was gone by the next day and he looked pretty much back to normal 2 days later, but my poor baby!
Re: PIP When a baby gets stung by a bee :(
The Dr actually said it wasn't a sure thing! She just said make sure we have Benadryl in the house in case it happens again, because if it is an allergy, it can get worse...she said that it may have just puffed up like that because of how close it was to his eye.
Poor thing! I bet you were freaked out!
I almost had a heart attack this weekend because ds was playing in the yard under some trees and then next thing I know, he's surrounded by a huge swarm of yellow jackets. Apparently, he stuck a stick right in their nest. I snatched him up by one arm and ran and fortunately he didn't get stung. My aunt died from an allergic reaction to a wasp sting and my mother's whole body swells up if she gets stung so I'm particularly freaked by it.
I just can't believe he didn't cry! I got stung on the thumb when I was maybe 12 years old and I was HYSTERICAL! It really, really hurt! And I was very scared when I saw him in the crib with his eye like that, it literally took my breath away.
Though his normal, playful happy-baby mood helped ease my fears a bit until we could get him to the urgent care center!
Poor little guy!
I can't believe he didn't cry or anything when he got stung. I've been stung plenty and it has hurt like hell each time (and I'd like to think I'm not entirely a wuss when it comes to pain).
