Cloth Diapers - Anyone with experience

I found a local company that supplies cloth diapers. This will be my first baby and I am seriously considering going with this company. They supply you with a bin to put the dirty diapers in.. once a week they collect the dirty ones and give you a fresh supply. So I don't even have to wash them.

The service fee is $20 a week which sounds great to me.

I was wondering if someone with experience could take a look at the website and see if there is anything i should consider before going with this company. I dont really see anything but its my first time and could be overlooking something.

Thank you so much for your time

Re: Cloth Diapers - Anyone with experience

  • Are you opposed to washing diapers at home because that works out to roughly $1k a year.  With 1k you could get some seriously cute diapers that would last you more than just a year and more than just one child!

I think it said that you dont sign a contract so you can try it out and see how you like it and if it isnt for you then you could always buy your own diapers later and do it that way.

  • I agree that it is WAY more money than is worthwhile.  It's so much easier than people think to wash at home.

Like the PP said, it'd be nice to try out different diapers to see what works best, but I wouldn't do it long term.

  • Thanks for the suggestions, I am not opposed to washing them myself. I will go check out a few places to see about buying my own cloth diapers!  This way just sounded way too easy lol.. i will look around and see what will work best for us.

  • I think there's a few other Canadian ladies that frequent the board.  Not sure if they're in your area or not but they might be able to give you some good Canadian stores so you can avoid shipping fees from the States.

  • I know they may have great industrial machines but I personally do not like the idea of using diapers I know have been sitting around for an ENTIRE week before being washed? Are you getting your diapers back or washed ones from other babies? It's still gross to me regardless and then you have less control over what they are washing with if your child did havea reaction to whatever they use to wash their cloth diapers. You would have less control trying to see why your LO got a rash etc.?

But I am not one to ask, I've never cloth diapered myself either! Going to try with this one. Been doing lots of research and reading and I feel very ready to handle it myself now.?

  • it does sound convenient. and $20 a month is nothing, i know its alot easier to shell out $20 a month rather than 1k up front.  BUt keep in mind you still have to buy the covers for your diapers, and wash them as well. that company doesnt provide covers for you. :)
  • Our diaper service was $75-80 a month which works out to roughly what you're looking to pay.  I'm not going to lie, the first couple of months it was great since I was too tired to do much of anything (especially after a c/s) but the cost just isn't worth it in the long run.  We spent $200 or thereabouts for a stash that will last us a long time and that is far less expensive.  I'd suggest a Jillian's drawers trial or something to get you into the various options.
