Scam Update!

I spoke to the manager at my bank who said that the only thing you can do is throw away the check. He said that if I would've cashed it, I would have been out the money. Basically, any time you cash a check you are saying that you know where the money is coming from and it's good - so I would have been accountable.

 

You girls were so right!  I'm so glad I didn't get duped!

is there a return address on the packaging?  Call the police and report them.

It's weird - the return address on the package is in San Antonio, TX.  However, the address on the check is from New York.

Also, the guy's last name is different on the package than it was on his emails.

I just can't believe that it happened to me.

can you report the e-mail address to craigslist, so there is a headsup about that e-mail address...

I don't use craigslist I'm not sure how that all works.

I read your other post..i would report it to the police..i see it a lot when I try and sell things on CL..

I responded to your post below.  Often, unless you are actually out money($10k or more here in Vegas), the police don't act on an avoided scam.  It wouldn't hurt to try, but scammers are very good at providing conflicting information so they cannot be traced...which you would think would be a clue to some people.  Good thing you are more aware than many others out there.
