  • I don't think it's too crazy, just remember that some people get you diapers for showers as well.  Just hit them when they're on sale!
  • Loading the player...
  • I thought about it too, but I was thinking what if folk got them for my shower, then I'd have too many! Although most people will give you a gift receipt at the shower so you could exchange it. I wasn't going to start doing this until Septemebr tho and i'm due in Novemeber.

  • I started thinking about that too!!  Your not crazy!

  • I wouldn't. You have no idea how big your LO will be plus you don't know which diapers you are going to like the best.
  • I'm going to register for diapers and see how many packs I get at my shower.  Then after that I should have plenty of time to work on stocking up on what I didn't get.

If you want to buy them, I say go for it!

  • Maybe a touch on the early side, but prudent especially if it is a good price!

I'd say go for it if you have the space and already know what you prefer.

  • I heard this as a suggestion, and it sounds like a really good idea.

Everytime you go to Target/Walmart/Jewel (wherever you buy diapers) put $10 on a gift card (the same one every time).  Put that aside for diapers so you won't have to guess on sizes and brands, but you still have that money put aside for diapers!

    smart!!!

  • I've purchased a few packs here and there but if I were you I would buy the larger sizes because when it comes time to get things from other people (like at your showers) they will buy the small diapers instinctively.

Just my opinion.  Certain places like Walmart will let you exchange sizes too so if you have too many of one size and baby gets bigger, you can exchange for a larger size.

This is what I was going to say! My MIL is doing this for us I'm super excited about it :)

  • I thought about it but I was warned against this. I was told to buy small packs of several different brands/styles so that you can try them out and see which one works best for the baby. Same goes for wipes. Some babies are apparently allergic to certain diapers and wipes and you don't want to be stuck with a lot. So I think we're going to do that towards the end and for now shift an extra 50 a month over to the baby account to cover the expense while I'm out on maternity leave.
  • I just wouldn't open any of them. You never know what brand or type or size you'll need once the baby gets here.

My DS skipped totally over newborn (we gave away about 100 or so diapers that dh's work gave us opened) and went straight to size 1. He then went to size 2 swaddlers at 1 1/2wks old. And at 5wks we had to switch him to Pampers Baby Dry size 2 b/c the swaddlers were leaking something horrible. Now we're good for now. I ended up returning some huggies and swaddlers so far. I have another box of swaddlers I need to take back to BRU to get some Baby Dry diapers.

  • Don't think it's crazy at all, I've already started to get them too. I figure we may as well spend the money on them now while we have more income. The thing I worry about is buying too many of one size.
  • i thought about it when i was a bit early on but didnt buy any. We still dont have a diaper in the house. I registered for a couple boxes of newborns and a couple boxes of size 1s along with a huge box of wipes...we'll see what the shower brings and if i dont get them then we'll buy them ourselves. Do whats best for you.. its not a bad idea by any means..

  • Ditto the gift card.  Setting aside the money to soften the blow = great idea.  Actually buying the diapers is less of one - you don't know what sizes you will need and you don't know what will work best and having to find receipts and exchange a bunch of diapers is a hassle.

If you absolutely will do this, tape the receipts to the package of diapers so you don't lose them.

  • I've been doing this!  I don't buy huge packs, just regular-sized.  I get coupons every week in my paper so I figure I'll use them!  I also buy a pack of wipes.  I agree with PP, keep size in mind because people are going to probably buy newborn sizes for your shower.  I've been alternating whenever I go, but mostly buying 2's and 3's.  Also, all my friends/family with babies say that Pampers are way better than Huggies (just a tip since I'm always getting both coupons and don't know which to choose).
