Cost of IVF

Hello ladies. I have a infertility consult next week. I've started having talks with my husband about the possibility of paying for one round of IVF (making the big assumption that I'm a good ?candidate). Like most people our insurance doesn't cover IVF or IUI but will cover some diagnostic tests and medications for an IF diagnosis. (We have to check everything code by code)

For ladies who have done IVF, would you mind sharing the cost. If you don't want to share that info, I'm telling my husband I think it could run $12,000-$15,000 out of pocket (using own old lady eggs). ?Does that sound accurate? ?I don't want to underestimate.

The ?clinic I have looked at lists a price of $7,500 excluding drugs and monitoring. That just sounds way cheap. But I'm assuming the drugs and monitoring could nearly double the cost.?

Re: Cost of IVF

  • My RE charged  $8100, not including drugs.  I really lucked out because my insurance paid for most of my meds - if they hadn't it would have been $5000. Do you have a perscription plan? If so, your drugs might be covered.

    Hope that helps!

  • Mine was about $10,000 but that didn't include things like some ultrasounds, bloodwork, and the hystercroscapy (sp?).

  • My clinic charges about 10K per IVF cycle.  That includes everything but meds and extras like ICSI.

You might want to look into purchasing a package - I bought a package that includes 2 fresh IVF and 2 frozen IVF cycles at a discounted rate.

Good luck at your apt.  I know that this can be a stressful time dealing with all of these decisions.

Generally IVF costs about 15K for everything including meds, monitoring etc.  Your estimate is pretty accurate.

  • Mine was $14,000 for 1 fresh & 1 frozen including ICSI package.  My meds which were covered somewhat by my insurance were $2900...first round was $600 and then we kept my dosage the same and I stimmed for 11 days instead of 8...so it added the $2300...that hurt!

  • My meds were $5100 and some of that was covered by insurance but the big guns were not (Follistim and Menopur).  Strangely, though my meds were expensive, my IVF monitoring and procedures are covered up to $5500. When you put the contracted rate with insurance that covers everything except ICSI ( which we don't need).  Out-of-pcoket if insurance covered nothing would have been $12,000 (plus the meds as listed above).  I am on the maximum doses though.
