Frustrated... He won't nap

When dh and I are home with ds he won't nap anywhere but on us.  At daycare he still naps in his carseat.  He won't nap in the crib even though he sleeps there at nihgt.  I tried drowsy awake this morning and it was 35 minutes of crying, me rubbing his face, singing to him.  Then I picked him up rocked him to sleep and as soon as I put him down he started waking up.  I snuck out of the room and he cried for 10 minutes before I went in and got him.  I just don' tknow what to do.  I know he needs to nap.

  • We are having the same problem! I don't know what happened in the past week to my good napper but it's driving me crazy! I just sat and rocked him for 45min the second I put him down he woke up...ugh.

  • He won't nap in the carseat at home?

My LO napped on us from about 4-6 months on the weekend. She slept best this way and when i did the crib, she slept for about 30 mins so she was cranky. at daycare she slept in the swing, bouncy seat and sometimes in pack and play.

At 6 months, she decided we werent as comfortable because she started belly sleeping. from that day on, we put her in the crib for naps and she slept amazing. 1 1/2-2 1/2 hour naps in there. I was shocked.

We werent willing to CIO or ferber for naps on weekends because we have such little time with her on weekends that I couldn't deal.

So you can either really do CIO or try the carseat at home, or do like we did, and watch tv or nap yourself :)

  • Same problem here! DS will nap all day at daycare but at home the second I put him down he is awake and not happy. I asked the pedi about this and he said to just try and lie down with him someplace other than the bed, like the couch or floor and try and get him to at least see that this is quiet time and he should nap. It still only works like 50% of the time and doesn't free me up to do anything.
  • Naps have been difficult for us, too.  Just when I think we've got them figured out, DD will go on a nap strike and throw everything off.  Have you read Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child ?  It clearly didn't give me all the answers, but it did help me understand naps better.

  • Same here!  DS sleeps great at night and is awful at napping unless held.

  • We've also experienced this/is experiencing this. It has gotten better this week after I decided to try out swaddling when he starts yawning during the day. He actually sleeps in his crib or in his pack'n play in our dining area. He just turned 8 weeks and has slept through the night for many weeks, but his crankiness from not napping during the day has been rough. It's going better now, and he still sleeps through the night! Perhaps even better than before.
  • we are having this problem for the past week...its super frustrating because i end up breaking down and letting her sleep on me and i don't want to start that again....she was good sleeping in her swing, which i didn't love but now she wakes if you set her there. then i tried to move naps to her crib, where she sleeps at night and she wakes there. i am wondering if this is the age they finally realize that they are being put down and remember that we're leaving them?? i read ferber, but cannot let her cio-even though its the progressive waiting and i get to check on her...can't do it. i am getting so sad for her because shes super tired and i feel like a crappy mom who can't get her lo to sleep ;(  i feel your pain is all i can say....
