Seething...

*deep breath*  *deep breath*

I'm just saying...  if you offer to babysit for someone, and they ask you for one of the dates you said would work, don't dicker around with it.  It's just cruel and thoughtless.  Really - you still don't know?   *trys to think who else she can call to babysit*  I'm not saying I need to be top priority, but really...  this is just mean.

Re: Seething...

  • Babysitters in general irritate me. I'm sorry you're dealing with this. Could you call a community college who has a "childcare & development" program and ask for some rec's and start interviewing? I guess its good to have a whole line up, as I'm told...not that we've ever had one....or gone out...

aww.. not all babysitters are bad! I used to babysit for many many years and still do on occasion.. I never stand people up! in fact, I find it to be the opposite at times.. where parents call to see if I'm available.. I say yes.. 2 weeks go by and then on the day they asked if I was free they call and say they don't need me!!!! argh Confused

  • The problem is we're relying on a friend.  My age - I have to think she'd be a bit more ...  dunno...  geeze...  she wanted me to let her know when we needed to know by.  Well, we were hoping for tomorrow...  good thing we didn't make any real plans...  Sorry - I'm just feeling sorry for myself.  I really need a date night, and I kind of assumed it would happen this weekend, so now I'm a bit bummed...

  • Thanks, wifey.  :)   at this point, though, I don't even know what to respond to her...  she and her DH are deciding if they're going to go camping that night...  :o/  I may just be done with it.

  • Well of course I'm not talking about awesome people who are great babysitters....they'd never bother me but it is the ones who are CLEARLY in it for a buck...

I went on CARE (dot) com to find some help, thinking at least I could have a clear profile, etc. to chose from and I paid for my membership, contacted a few (that had been logged on that same day so I knew they were still active) and I hate to tell you but of the 10 I emailed (very general email asking if they're still interested in babysitting gigs and "since we live so near one another, it might be a good fit. I'd love to talk with you"), 6 didn't EVER respond, 2 responded over a week later and the remaining 4 =
1 told me her boyfriend no longer allows her to babysit but she keeps her profile up there in case they break up (yes, that's exactly what I want around my daughter, a spineless, controled, and non-self-reliant woman!).
Another told me that her religious background prevented her from babysitting anyone non-Jewish (ummm, okay).
Another one told me that she'd need a firm commitment from me that I'd pay her 17.00/hr before she'd come to meet us and see if we "clicked" and when I said, "Well wage would definately be determined before we'd ever set up any babysitting jobs" she said, "No, I need a FIRM COMMITMENT. I usually charge 20.00 and hour so this is a deal!"....this girl was 19.
Lastly....my beacon of hope...the "grandma" of the group. Someone with whom I anticipated I could speak freely with and be on par with maturity. She came over, saw our house and our daughter. Was really good with her (although wouldn't get on the floor stating she couldn't get up if she did...followed by a not-so-convincing chuckle). My daughter liked her, even signed to her, etc. I told her that we cloth diaper and showed her BG's and showed her how she wouldn't have to touch anything more than she would with a disposable. She immediately stopped me and said....."I don't do diapers. Like at all. I have blahblah issue (some lowered immune?) and I don't touch butts". OKAY LADY THEN WHY THE FECK WOULD YOU OFFER TO GO THROUGH THIS WHOLE PROCESS TO COME MEET A 15 MONTH OLD?!

Can you see why babysitters irritate me? LOL

Thanks for letting me hijack your post to vent too (not that I asked permission....I fully expect that you post a post venting about people who hijack posts to vent on similar subject...on which I'll post my vent about people who hijack posts about post hijackers....tee hee hee)

Not all babysitters are like this! I am a nanny currently and I certainly dont stand up my clients....EVER! And I always call them back asap when I am contacted. I also work really hard to be flexible with my schedule and am willing to change, add, or subtract hours when needed. I have been a babysitter through an agency as well (since 2003) and the only time I ever stood anyone up without at least 6 hours notice was when I totaled my car on the way to a job. So we are not all bad I swear!

I would strongly suggest looking in your area for a nanny agency. Many of them offer babysitting as well. And often times if one babysitter cant make it they can usually find someone to fill in the same day. I also dont think they are that much more expensive than just using someone you find yourself. And you can count on your sitters having background checks, CPR, and references.

That sounds fabulous.  :)  Heck - we could probably stick C, Ian, Raven and Scruffy in a room, and all go on a double date!  ;)
