Pregnant after a Loss

waking up on my back!

So I have myself surrounded by pillows so I am not completely on my back but at an angle but this seems to be the norm the last few nights.  Do you think this is okay?

Re: waking up on my back!

  • My doctor said as long as you are not directly on your back it is fine.  Last night I woke up directly on my back with tons of pillows around me and freaked since I wasn't sure how long I had been like that...hopefully no more than an hour....I just can't get comfy these days.

  • I have this problem too!  I wake up on my belly or my back.  Last night I only got 4 hours of sleep because I couldn't seem to get comfortable, grrrr.
  • I wake up flat on my back all the time. I have chosen to just not worry about it. I figure that when it becomes too much I wake up and change positions. It's hard though...it hurts to sleep on your side all the time!

  • My dr. told me that you would wake up before being on your back caused any damage. Your legs would have to be really asleep to know that the blood supply was partially cut off. I still try to sleep at an angle on my back, but have definitely woken up flat before.

  • My doc said that same thing as Ceramsey, that you would know if you had hurt something.  She said that if you wake up on your back, just shift positions.  But I wake up multiple times a night on my back and it's annoying!

  • I have also heard that its not a HUGE risk to be sleeping on your back. They tell you NOT to do it because there is a chance the weight of the uterus could press against the inferior ( or is it superior? i cant remember) vena cava, a vein that carries blood to your heart, and obviously if its pinched by the uterus its not going to function well. However this is supposidly rare. So don't freak out! Just roll over if you notice yourself on y our back.
