2nd Trimester

How long after birth...

Do you usually bleed??  How much of that time do you have to wear pads?  Just curious...

Re: How long after birth...

  • I've heard about 6 weeks, but you should ask 0-6 month board since they just did it.

  • It is different with everyone but typically you stop bleeding by 6 weeks post partum. I think with DD I was to pantyliners by the 3rd or so week. The first 2 weeks usually require a pad and then you work your way down.

  • Depends on you and your body and how much you're trying to push yourself.  Also, I think it depends on if you deliver vaginally or have a c/s.  I've only delivered vaginally but I bleed for at least 6 weeks with each.  I was almost done at each of my 6 week appts.  The first two weeks or so are the worst, of course, and then it's like a heavy period, then spotting.
  • I bled for about 3-4 weeks.

  • It's very subjective, some women bleed for the full 6 weeks and some do not.  It usually starts out like a very heavy period and gradually gets lighter.  Some women have lots of clots the first week after delivery.

I just had my LO on Saturday (so like 5 days ago) and I am barely bleeding at all anymore.  I bled like a period immediately after delivery for 24 hours, then it lightened up during my second day at the hospital and I could use normal pads. By the 3rd day I could wear pantyliners and be fine.  I was a lucky.  If I do too much as far as activity goes at home (cleaning), I'll have a few drops of blood, otherwise it's a brownish mucousy discharge.

Good luck on the rest of your pregnancy.

  • It lasted around 6 weeks for me. I think a little less. I think the better physical shape you are in, the faster you recover.

Congratulations to you!  Hopefully I will be like you.  I don't bleed much for periods usually, but i guess I'll find out!

  • I had a c-section with #1 and bled for a few days after birth. Then it went away, and then came back. Then it went away for 9 months while I BF'd! ;-) I was quite happy for that!
  • I don't remember how long it was with DS#1 but I stopped bleeding and having to use the gigantic pads well before 6wk was up.

  • it's different for everyone.  I bled fairly heavily for almost 6 weeks, then had spotting for about 2-3 more.
  • if i remember right for sure 2 weeks possibly closer to three.   and don't take your own pads to the hospital-you will want to use their BIG pads for a couple of days.
