I have been keepind Baby J on a schedule since he came home from hospital. With DD I learned that life with a newborn was so much easier after I got her on a regular schedule. it seems to be working well this time around...much easier than with DD! Knock on wood.....
Some things you can try to do fairly routinely... like bath at the same time every other night, ect. But feedings and sleeping will most likely continue to be sporadic until around 12 weeks. This is the best time to try to be more scheduled with everything.
Many people say not to schedule your baby, but I think that I kinda do. During the day, we wake DD every 3 hours if she does not wake herself. Usually she will eat when she wakes up. We do bath about 7:45, massage, nurse, then story and bed. We will wake her up one more time around 11 or 11:30 unless she wakes up and DH gives her a bottle of breastmilk while I pump. She goes back to bed until anywhere between 5 and 7 am and then we start over. Having said this, it often changes because I always feed her if she is hungry, no matter what time it is and how long it has been since her last feeding and I will let her sleep longer if I can tell she needs it.
We sort of fell into a schedule but a very loose one since he is still so young. I know he needs 2 long naps (2 hour) in the morning and afternoon and one shorter one in the late afternoon. Then we start getting ready for bed around 7pm. Try to have him asleep in the co-sleeper by 7:30 or 8.
DS hates swings, bouncers etc. Once I started putting him to bed earlier life got a lot easier. I have time for myself in the evening (DH works nights) so I need time to eat and do chores (ie: eating ice cream and watching reality TV.
We are starting to figure out a schedule (DD has been the one to set it and I work around it at this point). She sleeps until 9, then gets up and nurses until about 12:30 or so with a little "play" time in there for a few minutes, then takes a nap from around 1-3 or 4 then wakes up and nurses for another 2 hours or so, then we have "daddy time" where he gets to play with her, then she will usually nurse again for an hour or 2 before I go to bed. Daddy stays up with her and gives her a bottle if needed and puts her down to bed around 10:30 or 11. She usually wakes around 2am, 4am and 6am to nurse then comes to bed with me until we get up at 9am to restart our day.
Like I said-at this point our schedule is dictated by her, but I'm finding that she has started to set her own. But this has only started this week-so have hope!

I think most babies don't start a schedule til around 3 months. However, my LO has kind of scheduled himself, and I go by that. We do bedtime every night with a routine, but otherwise he is pretty good about doing things at the same time every day and has been since about 7 weeks, with some hiccups here and there!?
?
I wouldn't worry about it for a month or two though.?
We have a bed time routine that has been working well the past week. He is in bed around 9. I lie him in his crib wide awake, usually he was dosing before when he was nursing but wakes when put down. I have the lights turned down, if he is wide awake I turn on his mobile to nature sounds and read him a story. After the story, I say good night, I love you and I usually don't hear a peep after that. I check in a few minutes he is sound asleep. He has been sleeping well that way too, He may get up once to eat, but dosing off easily and back to sleep. When he wakes, I make sure it is very boring, just there to do business change him, feed him, back to bed, don't really even crack a smile, in the morning the routine is to say good morning, change him smile and play a little so he knows it is the right time to be up.
Our LO is not on a schedule. She does what she wants when she wants. I have never woken her up for a feeding/changing/etc. For about 2 weeks now, she's had a pretty consistent sleeping/eating pattern.

Things I did different with this pregnancy:
1. Waited TTC until after I had 3 normal menstrual cycles.
2. Got a new OB - amazing man who listened!
3. 200 mg progesterone until 12 weeks
4. Daily lovenox injections
DD sort of fell into a regular bed time about a week ago so we've started a nighttime routine with her and are gradually trying to move her bedtime back - right now it is 2am
During the day, we don't have a definite schedule - just eating, playing and short naps
We got DD into a routine around 9-10 weeks (not a schedule, just an order that we did things). Every day was different but the pattern was the same.
Around 4 months, she really fell into a schedule where she's doing stuff around the same time every day.
"Hello, babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. At the outside, babies, you've got about a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies. God damn it, you've got to be kind."
