We heard plenty of people saying don't bother with a convertible crib, you won't want to use a toddler bed anyway, just straight to twin, etc....

We did end up buying a convertible crib for DS. Not necessarily because that's what we wanted, but it had all the other features we were looking for and couldn't find. We never thought we would convert it, always planned to move DS up to a twin and give the crib to the baby by the time we had the next.

That was before we ended up pregnant well before we planned. We have a 3rd bedroom to use but it's upstairs separate from the other 2 bdrms. I don't see anyone needing to move up there, DS is too young and we'll want to be close to the baby too. So DS and DC2 will be sharing a room. So we've been trying to figure out if we'll buy a toddler bed and give the crib to the baby. Or baby a cheap crib and let DS keep his longer. It could be his toddler bed too when we're sure he's ready for it (since it's convertible). We thought moving to a twin now would take up more space in a shared room.

Well I just got the most screaming deal on CL! A solid oak convertible crib that pretty much matches DS's exactly. (I never anticipating being able to match his furniture). It's the kind that converts from crib-toddler-twin-adult bed even. It's in excellent condition and from what I can find retailed for $300-400 2 years ago. I just got it for $80!!! And a friend just told me last night she has a mattress for me. So I have one major item checked off the list.

I'm so excited. I hadn't even meant to be searching for one on CL yet, just happen to come across it. WAHOO! So if you've made it through my post thanks for sharing in my excitment. Best of all is both kids can move to a toddler bed and when they're ready have bunk beds when we go to twins.

Great deal!  I love CL.....I am sure that is where I will be buying dd's next bed!
