Found an IPOD...

Is there a number or a way to locate the owner via the serial number?  I put up a post on craigslist for it(leaving it at just that I found an ipod on what side of town and asking for what type of ipod it is, color, and a few songs off of the song list).

 It's been a couple days and so far no response.  I really want to make sure it gets back to the rightful owner, but not sure how else to try to find the owner other than craigslist.  Any ideas?

Was it buy a business or something, could you let the owners know in case someone comes in looking for it.

Nope not by a business at all.  Near some tennis courts.  Put up a sign there as well.

I'm pretty sure you can register your ipod with apple...I saw something on a news show about it one time. I'd call them and see.

Call Apple.

Each time you plug your iPod into your computer, your iPod's serial number is on the PC.  An account is also created with your email therefore contact information is stored for each serial number.

 However, this won't work if they've used their iPod on someone else's computer but its well worth the effort.  iPods aren't cheap!
